Yeah, the Apostle John knew Jesus when he was on Earth. So did 11 of his Apostles. The Mary that was weeping as Jesus was dying at Golgatha was truly sad. She is Mary Magdalene, one of seven Mary's mentioned in the Bible who is connected with Jesus. She knew what he looked like. However, after Jesus was impaled, he was interred in a hewn rock tomb provided by Joseph of Arimethea, a secret believerin Jesus. A heavy block of stone sealed the tomb. Mary Magdalene managed to procure some extra spices to perfume the body and in the morning she and a few others walked back to the tomb. She was amazed that the heavy stone had been moved away. Mary peered inside. The tomb was empty. She saw a man sitting outside and thinking he was a gardener, Mary M. asked him "do know where they have taken my Lord?" Because she had no idea who this man was. Only after he spoke to her, calling her by her name did she recognize the man was actually Jesus. The women rushed to tell the surviving disciples who as you might expect, thought them a bit daft. There are two more experiences like this in the Gospel accounts. One includes two disciples who were not part of the original 12, who were walking from Jerusalem to Emmaus. Jesus simply walked beside them and spoke about making James and John "fishers of men." The men had no idea who was talking to them. Only after a night had passed, did the men recognize who was actually talking to them. Thomas, the Apostle who doubted Jesus had been resurrected and famously said "unless I see in his hands the prints of the nail and stick my finger in the print of the nails and his side," he would not believe. But after seeing Jesus as a resurrected man, he exclaimed "My Lord, My God." Don't know if Thomas did any sticking of his finger, but he was satisfied. Jesus told Thomas: "Happy are those who do not see me and believe." Jesus appeared to many after he was resurrected. There is not much recorded about the reactions of those who saw him. So, I tend to dismiss claims of what he looked like. Mostly, because it does not matter to me. I'll let others come to blows over skin color of Bible characters. So, knowing what Jesus looked like when he was alive does not necessarily mean that anyone would easily recognize him after he was resurrected. Mary Magdalene surely didn't. The account starts at John 18:1.

The bottom line is a birth date is on most driver's licenses and it includes a month, a number day and the year of birth. Why someone would claim the mention of someone's age is a birthdate is beyond me. But that's in the past ... literally. @frankster The scriptures you cite from Revelation are part of several visions were that written down by the Apostle John. The guy was pretty old by then and imprisoned on the Greek island of Patmos. This has little to do with John's writing since the visions were from God. But the visions John saw are NOT reality. John was describing the appearance of Jesus' hair in a vision. It is not literal. And the figure's eyes were like fiery flame. Don't know why everybody wants to forget about that part? Did you know that Daniel experienced a similar vision of the "Ancient of Days?" The figure Daniel saw is described as having white hair like clean wool. Revelation also includes visions of a seven headed dragon with ten horns or diadems and a beast arising out of sea with the number "666" emblazoned on its body. Ever see one of those? They're not real. They're visions.

If you believe the Bible is all about Black people, that is quite well and good. To me, it's an ancient history book. And no, I don't believe you. Because ancient Israelites really were stuck in one part of the world. It's in their DNA to control an d safeguard that portion of Earth by any means necessary. Which is why they have awesome influence over the foreign policy of the U.S. and Britain while Blacks generally don't even rate a wave of acknowledgement. And yeah, I knew who Haile Selassie was. The truth is that Moses never gave a prophecy about Slave Ships. Those two lines in the 28th Chapter of Deuteronomy are part a 64-verse long warning of what would happen if the Israelites disobeyed their God. It's the part of the Blessings and Maledictions. Giving someone's age is not giving an exact birth date. I am not the one who claims the Bible cites the exact dates of birth of Noah's sons. Because I happen to know it does not. Again, we have no idea what these long dead individuals looked like. No one has ever found the remnants of Noah's ark or the location of the Garden of Eden. Those who believe they existed simply trust their feelings. And when asked why, often cite this scripture as a response: "We walk by faith, not by sight." ( 2nd Cor. 5:7 )

The only time Delano did that was during a discussion about Abbott Nutrition's parent, Abbott Laboratories, spending billions to buy its stock. Before that just read his posts, some where interesting. Others were on topics I was aware of, but just chose to keep silent. This was at a time when Abbott Nutrition was forced to close its Sturgis, Mich., baby formula plant for bacteria infections. This contributed to a massive shortage of baby formula across the U.S. which has not fully abated. My position will always be what the parent company was doing instead of using the money to clean its Sturgis, Mich., equipment was immoral. And wherever I posed my opinion, people agreed with me. Delano said the parent had a right to buy back its stock. Which is true. But the timing was abysmal and offended so many a U.S, Senator demanded a hearing. Your pal got so angry and has been hurling personal insults ever since. I will not abide such foolishness.

@Pioneer1 The topic I was discussing concerned Latinos and Hispanics. There was no cause to mention other demographics and therefore, I did not.

I was not aware of the travails of Pioneer and Cynique. I really enjoy reading Cynique's posts. I love reading ProfD's posts as well. And the same with Mel Hopkins. There are probably a few others whose monikers escape me for the moment. The problem with some posters is that they are simply negative when reacting to others who don't agree with them. This turns into resentment which evolves into rage. You can reach some people with consistency, accuracy and a calm demeanor. But I avoid people who breathe fire right off the bat and are so focused on certain things they cannot see beyond their presumed evidence.

People have a right to call themselves what they wish. Since we're being specific about Latino and Hispanic, it is downright foolish for anyone not part of those demographics to weigh in on what they should be called.

I could be wrong, but methinks you and a few others are focusing on the 28th Chapter of Deuteronomy and what's referred to as the Blessings and Maledictions. For those who may be unaware, the maledictions were serious warnings for Jews if they disobeyed Yahweh in the future. Most of these warnings focused on natural disasters, diseases and crop failures. But some referred to Israel being conquered and the resulting tragedies that would befall its people. Because following the Exodus from Egypt, the Old Testament deals only with the people of ancient Israel and showcases a bevy of prophecies foretelling the coming of the Israelite Messiah. According to some Jewish historians, a few Israelites did seek safety in Egypt centuries later. But only following the Babylonian military's destruction of the two tribe kingdom of Judah almost a thousand years later. That's after King Zedekiah and many others had turned away from Yahweh. But most survivors of the destruction of Jerusalem by Nebuchadnezzar's armies (as prophesied by Jeremiah and Ezekiel), were carried off to Babylon. The Israelites were kept captive in Babylon for 70 years and included among them was the prophet Daniel. It was Persian King Cyrus the Great who conquered Babylon and freed the Israelites. That was a long time ago and none of those people are living today. If you are saying that verse 68 means Moses foretold the Great Slave Trade from Africa, count me out. There is nothing to indicate that. I definitely believe hundreds of thousands and perhaps a couple of million Black Africans were kidnapped and taken to the Arabian peninsula. But I have yet to find scriptural evidence for this. And debating history books, academic studies, anthropological evidence about Africa, Blacks and Slavery and dealing with virulent viewpoints - it gets tiresome. So I avoid it. Especially, since it appears that either later this year or early next, there may be the beginning of a concerted effort to enlist Saudi Arabia to join in with Israel and the U.S. in a war against Iran.

I understand the point Cynique is making. But I will not agree because the Russian justice system is a friggin' joke. Brittney Griner made a mistake. Who among us has not? And now she is a civilian hostage. She is not a criminal and she is not a drug dealer. She does not belong in a cage. When Brittney finally comes home, I am hoping she can resume her career. But I bet she will hear angry shots of '"Druggie, Bi---!" in many areas of this country. Because some people will not let this go. White celebrities get popped for illegal drugs all the time. They say awful things, get caught in compromising situations and do silly chit. They disappear in rehab until its safe to come out again. Rush Limbaugh was addicted to pain killers. I don't remember vast multitudes lambasting him over his addiction, but for his nasty comments. He still had copious defenders. Black people cannot get a break. It pains me that so many are beating on this young woman. I say, let her come home first before any recriminations begin. Because we know talk show hosts and op-ed writers will tear into her without remorse.

@Pioneer1 There are many translations of the Old Testament, or Hebrew Scriptures. So, the rendering of the color White ( "laban" ) means something different to you than it does to millions of others. I am sure non-Biblical sources claim this as well. But the Bible is actually silent on the exact birth dates of Noah's sons. The Bible simply notes how old Noah was. ( He was 500, according to Genesis 5:32 ).

I hear you. According to the Bible, skin hue meant little to the Creator. There really was no indication the Almighty condemned nations of people based on their skin color. For their religious practices and beliefs, yeah. That's why scriptures condoning or ordering regional slaughtering and enslavement were always troubling to me. I can recite them, but don't agree with them. Especially now, with the beginnings of Christian Nationalism and the inherent threats to folks unacceptable to bigots such at Marjorie Taylor Greene. Some in our human race must always find new excuses to continue waging war against each other.

@Cynique Brittney Griner had visited Russia before. Perhaps she thought she was becoming so well known and so well liked she could get away with certain things. I doubt her association with Paul Whelan is helping her. He's a former U.S. Marine accused of spying. She's a famous civilian hostage. There is a lot of opposition to attempts to free Brittney. A lot of people said she deserves her sentence because she sided with Colin Kaepernick in his anthem kneeling protests. She's been accused of not liking her own country.
