Black folks here in America are under no illusion that the SCOTUS works to our benefit. Nor does appointing a black person to the bench insure that we will have a champion any more than having a black President. Our sub-conscience *hope* is that one day a black person will break through the glass ceiling and be the catalyst to eradicate white supremacy. It is a very tall order. In addition to eternal salvation, chalk it up to another thing amongst black folks' prayers.

Congrats to Mayor Cavalier Johnson. I hope that he has a plan and is given a fair chance to make a positive difference in Milwaukee.

Biden offers a spectacularly qualified Black woman SOTUS nominee

Both sides of the political aisle have lauded her credentials and qualifications. -
The Left Is Eating Black America's Lunch By Dividing It From Within

Few people really understand what it is and how white supremacy works. Pretending that it doesn't exist is probably a great coping mechanism. I hope it's working out. In the meantime, feel free to explain why both sides of the political aisle agree: 1) provide Ukrainian financial, military and humanitarian aid 2) allow Russian president to remain in power There is no division or debate among them on this issue. They are united in their response to it and neither side is complaining about paying higher prices for gas. In fact, when senator Lindsey Graham mentioned taking him out and POTUS Biden said that he should not be in power, they were admonished. The invasion of Ukraine and response to it really gives non-white people a chance to see how white people roll. White folks are showing their willingness to sacrifice human lives on principles that have little or nothing to do with the greater good of humanity. It also shows that if white people are are willing to kill each other for nothing, they would take pleasure in destroying non-white people. -
How can you reasonably rank your intelligence?
ProfD replied to Delano's topic in Culture, Race & Economy
Intelligence is great when it comes to conversation and personal achievement and accomplishment and validation. However, as an old man, I'm less impressed with individual intelligence and hopeful that collective intelligence will enable us to do a better job of taking care of each other as human beings. -

Reports I've seen suggest that Africans were able to leave the country just like Ukrainians. Granted, Africans weren't treated as well as Ukrainians on the way out of the country but that's par for the course. IMO, Africa should not have to be dependent upon Europe or Asia or any other country for grain or anything else. Yet, Africans allow Europeans, Asians and Americans free reign to manipulate and control their natural resources. Despite the fact that I know the reasons, black folks having a whole continent and still not being self-sufficient will never make sense to me. Of course, this is always a source of debate with Africans in my family. -

Ukrainian refugees are showing up at the US border too. They being welcomed with open arms...hot cocoa, warm blankets and a 1-way ticket into the US. -

Senator Susan Collins is voting to confirm too. Judge soon to be Justice Jackson is on her way to the SCOTUS. -
Agreed. Racism and the hate that accompanies it could always be a problem for black folks. While I do not believe interracial marriages will lead to the erasure of black people from the planet, I do think it will further dilute and marginalize black folks. If knowledge of our history is an indicator, eventually, black folks will no longer embrace their skin color when it comes to their contributions, achievements and advancements in the world. At some point, the 1st black [insert here] won't be any more relevant to black folks than Pete Buttigieg being the 1st gay Secretary of Transportation.

Thoughts to Regina King as Shirley Chisholm
ProfD replied to richardmurray's topic in Culture, Race & Economy
Regina King is an excellent actress. I believe she would portray Shirley Chisholm very well. -
@Stefan, that is unfortunate. The politicians running New York and New York respectively need to be pulled on the carpet if they are not providing laptops to students in need. It is essential to their learning especially when schools are closed for whatever reason. Businesses and institutions of higher learning dispose of computers that can be refurbished and recycled. So, it's not like they aren't available. But, these are the types of platform issues voters should be aware during election time.
-
Surely, they who run the media get to program it. Unfortunately, we won't speak up and force them to let it go.
-
IMO, we've reached a point now that anyone who really wants a computer can get one. Schools provide computers to under-privileged students. Organizations provide refurbished computers to the poor. Libraries and other places provide free Wi-Fi service. Internet service providers offer senior citizens a reduced fee in some areas. The biggest hurdle isn't technological, it's computer literacy i.e. teaching folks who didn't grow up with computers and/or never had to use them. Getting back on topic, the folks I'm referrring to have no business fooling with crypto.

Hackers continue their Cryptocurrency heists

Wherever there is currency and/or an opportunity to make money, thieves are nearby plotting to steal it. -
Chris Rock is a comedian. He tells jokes for a living. It was not his intention to insult a medical condition. Also, Jada could have done a number of things with her head (hat or a wig) if she was that self-conscious about it. Not like she was sitting there as a cancer patient. IMO, Will took his frustration out on Chris but his issues go deeper than a joke. He didn't smack that young guy who was supposedly smashing his wife. Nor has he smacked his confused kids. Will has deeper issues.

Senator Lindsey Graham is going to vote against Judge Jackson. Sen. Graham said she's of good character but he's voting against her due to a "record of judicial activism, flawed sentencing methodology and a belief that she will not be deterred by the plain meaning of the law when it comes to liberal causes." Sen. Graham is full of it.

SCOTUS Justice Thomas Hospitalized and Released

@Stefan, no worries...I figured it was an oversight. All is well on my end. Hopefully so for each and every one of you and yours too. -

Justice Thomas' wife who also happens to be his best friend is a staunch conservative political activist. I refuse to believe she hasn't done anything that would pose a conflict of interest to him. Amazing that it's been kept under wraps for so long. Then again, maybe not because he's in the same ideological boat. -
While he hasn't admitted it yet but I think GOP Senator Mitt Romney will vote to confirm Judge Jackson too.

Same here. As I mentioned in another thread, it was a bad look for black men. All dressed up like penguins but one acting a fool. Will has apologized but the damage is already done. They wonder why the Academy awards has been white for so long.
