  1. Chev In all fairness though, I do understand why @Troy has contention about the word 'race'. I understand the social construct of today as opposed to the ancient world. The REALITY of race isn't a social construct, it's a concrete reality that can easily be seen and examined most of the time. The only social construct is the CLASSIFICATIONS that are often erroneous and change from time to time. In other words........... The fact that millions of people have dark brown skin with kinky hair and millions of others have yellow skin with straight black hair is a CONCRETE REALITY. The differences between those two are NOT simply "social constructs" made up by society! The differences between their races are as REAL as the differences between one being a man and the other being a woman. Now classifying one group as "Negroid" and then 100 years later calling them "Black" and then another hundred years later calling them "Colored".....while classifying the other group as "Mongoloid" and then later as "Korean" and then later as "Asian"... ARE social constructs. Society has CONSTRUCTED various names and systems of classification for that which is REAL and physically exists. English speakers call adult females WOMEN Espanol speakers call adult females MUHERES Different social constructs to classify the same reality.
  2. Troy It's not necessary to use the ENTIRE entry containing SEVERAL definitions, all you need to use is the one most fitting to your point. The word "too" has atleast two definitions: -also -exaggeration If I say a woman is too big for me then I'm using only the one definition, I need not concern myself with the others. It is a religious battle for you, facts, logic reason, science -- none of it matters to you. Did the definitions of both "race" and "social construct" that I posted, matter to you?
  3. As I said before, you can deny the reality of race all you want but even the Kemites (ancient Egyptians) recognized the existence of different races: Caucasians were called "Tahamu" which roughly translates into "man who was MADE Caucasian".
  4. Troy 1. If racial categories are a SOCIAL CONSTRUCT and according to Webster a social construct is that which is CREATED by society.....then by it's very definition racial differences exists because they were a concept created by society. You can disagree with their definition, but you can't deny their existence. 2. According to Webster races are groups often based on physical differences. The word "are" also denotes that which exists. Webster CONFIRMS the existence of different racial groups by clearly stating what they ARE.
  5. race noun (1) Save Word Definition of race (Entry 1 of 3) 1asee usage paragraph below : any one of the groups that humans are often divided into based on physical traits regarded as common among people of shared ancestry Race | Definition of Race by Merriam-Webster (merriam-webster.com)
  6. Troy This is purely a figment of your imagination and not supported by anything said in the article. The article states: Racial status? In order for a subject to have a STATUS....that means there must be MORE THAN ONE of those subjects in which to compare it to, wouldn't that be correct? Racial STATUS implies there are more than one race to compare eachother to and establish status among eachother. Maybe this is the problem. It is not about winning -- at east not to me. I would much rather have my knowledge advanced even if it means that what I previously believed was shown to be false. So if your during the course of debate or argument enlighten me to something I did not previously know I would welcome this. Splendid! Then I will start a thread that will hopefully ADVANCE your knowledge. Racist white men created racial categories to justify the oppressions of the so called "non-white" people. And before them NON-White men also created racial categories. The Ancient Egyptians divided humans into races also. We know now that despite the phenotypical difference in people that generically we are one race barely indistinguishable from each other. That's like saying despite the differences in sex organs, generically people are only one sex.
  7. social construct noun Save Word Definition of social construct formal : an idea that has been created and accepted by the people in a society Class distinctions are a social construct. Social Construct | Definition of Social Construct by Merriam-Webster (merriam-webster.com)
  8. Troy Why I invest all this time trying to help you understand this is really beyond me Because it's Winter and you're stuck in cold-ass Tulsa under quarantine in an apartment that you just found out that the fine sister you THOUGHT was gonna be living there too was just a model used to lure men.....so you have nothing better to do. Or maybe not....LOL maybe because I know you are sincere but you are really too grounded in the belief racial categories that when you read something that goes against your belief you still see it as supporting your argument?! Perhaps you should ask yourself that same question as the very TITLE of the article supports my position that their are multiple races and then further supports it in the content itself. Furthermore this quote you CHOSE to focus on (while ignoring the rest of the article clearly supporting the fact of multiple races) does not discount or disprove the EXISTENCE of multiple races! Read it CAREFULLY: "Second, the study reinforced the idea that race is a social construct rather than a homogeneous genetic or ancestral category." This statement doesn't DISPROVE the idea of multiple races. It merely DEFINES race...as a social construct...rather than being genetic or ancestral (which I too disagree with but that's not the point) -while still supporting the idea of MULTIPLE RACES. Your argument is that their is only ONE race. This SCIENTIFIC article makes the claim that although race is a social construct there are STILL MULTIPLE RACES. I understand why @Delanohas given up, because it is very frustrating to debate you because you can't be reasoned with and facts don't mean a damn thing. Delano KNOWS he can't win an argument with me...(or any other LOGICAL thinker)...and has long stopped trying and has sought refuge in an introverted world of philosophical ponderings, which is a pretty strange hobby for a professional accountant. You just haven't given up yet....lol.
  9. I actually liked Viola Davis in Fences with Denzel Washington. For some reason I found her extraordinarily attractive (except for the part where she was snotting up and crying) in that role as housewife.
  10. Troy Besides acknowledging racial differences, exactly what information about the article was inaccurate? I can offer many more examples, by the way.
  11. Troy Lol....so a scientific journal using "sloppy language"??? You're calling the author(s) as well as the scientists who contributed to this article dumb and sloppy.
  12. Troy Since you say you believe in science and professional journalism, here is a SCIENTIFIC ARTICLE from a professional journalist about racial disparities in the Covid-19 Pandemic: If racial differences didn't exists scientifically, why is this scientific article and the field of medicine RECOGNIZING the inequity between different races?
  13. Chev I am not one that believes in Colorism on any level, but we need to address this issue and not deter from it just because of White Supremacist. Exactly. Just because White Supremacists acknowledge racial differences, then does that mean we should NOT? Even Satan will tell SOME truth while mixing it up with falsehood for deception. Doesn't mean we shouldn't acknowledge a truth thing. Troy Wouldn't it be better to use ethnicity nationality or even religion to explain differences in people? Religion and ethnicity ARE already used...in various degrees....to explain differences in people. They just aren't the ONLY categories used. You're muddying the waters...... Your complaint started off with the EXISTENCE of different races, and then you go into how it's a waste of time to classify one's self and how the differences are reinforced and then how we should instead classify ourselves based on ethnicity and religion instead. None of it disproves the existence of racial differences. It proves your DISLIKE of the acknowledgement of those differences...but they don't disprove the fact that those differences exist. for example claims he has all this proof of scientific evidence for race but he cannot produce any evidence of any test that one can administer to determine one's race. Lol, I can post scientific articles that support the fact that there are different races all day and all night............... This is a scientific article that CLEARLY admits that racial differences exist. Science DOES acknowledge racial differences.
  14. I hope our dear sister finds Peace and Prosperity on the OTHER side.
  15. Troy No, not at all. It's just that "beautiful" isn't a word that I would use to describe him....but then again.....I'm not a woman, lol.
  16. ((shakes head and walks out of the room leaving the other two men to watch and enjoy white men pontificating))
  17. How race is CATEGORIZED is a social construct....the actual races themselves, are not. Do you understand what I'm saying?
  18. Troy From a cultural perspective sure. Like Tazarah just pointed out in your previous post, do you realize you just ADMITTED to the reality of racial differences? That which exists....exists...regardless of how you define it. In determination of it's very existence, it doesn't matter HOW racial distinctions are categorized.
  19. This is sad (for the world....not for them). Our sister was 96 years old! Hank Aaron also passed away a few days ago and he lived to be around 86. May BOTH of these great AfroAmerican elders enjoy peace and prosperity on the OTHER SIDE!
  20. Troy Never mind, I made it all up......... ((Pioneer shakes head and walks out of the room))
  21. Troy Well the GOOD thing about those two nations you mentioned (Nigeria and Brazil) is that unlike here in the U.S.....over there, those who are called "Black" truly ARE Black, and have very little admixture of other races. In Latin America racial categorizing is done differently where you must be nearly ALL Black to be considered Black (El Negro). Regardless as to how dark you are, if you have any Spanish or Portuguese ancestry you're considered THAT. Which is why Pele wasn't considered Black in Brazil. "You mean I'm NOT Black after all?? Yaaaaaayyyy!!"
  22. You're the first woman I've heard who described his looks in such wonderful terms. I think of many things when I think of our dear brother Jack Johnson, but "beautiful" wasn't one of the things that came to mind...lol.
  23. Troy and Delano Do you two REALLY find those Caucasian men sitting infront of eachother with bewildered looks upon their faces asking mundane questions and giving ambiguous answers about life and reality, "interesting"? Seriously....serious question. And if so what exactly is "interesting" about them and their conversation? I mean...what makes you think THEY have the answers or are worth listening to?
  24. Troy Some of us have dark skin and nappy hair. Some of us have straight hair and pale skin. That does not make us different races Lol...come on man. That's like saying "some of us have penises and testicles while others have ovaries and breasts but that does not make us different sexes". Those phenotypical differences are the ESSENCE of racial distinction.
