I saw this on Twitter but of course I not into citing Twitter as a source. This lead me to an website, which lead me to another website, which ultimately lead me to the original source which was, yes you guessed it Barack Obama's Facebook page. I had not idea Obama was active on Facebook (seriously). Well I don;t know how active he is because this was the only post of his that I looked at. I did notice that a few of my friends "liked" Barry's reading list along with another 123 thousand other people. I did not "like" it -- what is the point? It is not like Obama is gonna say, "Hey 'Chelle, check it out; Troy from AALBC liked my reading list." Yay Faceboo…

I did a search on the novel Their Eyes Were Watching God by Zora Hurston and didn't find anything here. I haven't read it yet but I'm hoping over the holidays I'll have some time to start. Ms. Hurston was a black writer living in Florida during the 1930s. This is supposed to be her best known and most controversial work, according to Amazon. It takes places in a black Florida town. She was accused of pandering to white readers by using black dialogue. The book was out of print for thirty years but was re-printed beginning in 1978. Has anyone read this who could comment on it?

I'm a African American author who is promoting my most recent self-published work, entitled 'The Shearing of Willie McElroy.' Why? Because it’s discouraging and makes it difficult to ‘keep at it’ when fewer people read books nowadays. Why? Because, I believe this 71 page booklet of short stories and poem contains some of my best work to date! Why? Because stories like, the ‘N-ga Word,’ ‘Black America,’ and ‘My Momma’ are YOUR stories. It's currently being sold in eBook and paperback formats on Amazon. I'd really like to hear what your group has to say about this project! Thank you...

In "The Brothahood Of Kings," acclaimed life coach and author, Coach Michael Taylor, offers a transformative guide for black men seeking to redefine masculinity, find inner peace, foster dynamic health, cultivate fulfilling relationships, and achieve financial abundance. Drawing from his own experiences and extensive expertise, Taylor dispels the pervasive myth that black men are limited in their potential due to systemic racism and discrimination. Instead, he champions a narrative of resilience, self-empowerment, and boundless opportunity. Good evening, I wanted to share with you an important topic: Teaching children how to protect themselves against a bad touch. The book, Good Touch Bad Touch: How to Tell the Difference, focuses on the importance of consent, not keeping secrets, creating a safety plan with parents, asking for help, and the most important part "its not their fault." I have attached the cover of the book; please, tell me what you think. http://www.innerlight-therapeutic.com/BuyBooksAndCDs.en.html

These questions were posed before the advent of social media and during what I'd describe as the height of the "Black Literature Renaissance" in 2000. Check out all the questions and answers: https://aalbc.com/fun/survey.htm The really interesting thing is that even though this site gets orders of magnitude more traffic in 2017, than in 2000, I doubt I could get as many people to respond to surveys like this. Part of the reason AALBC attracts more visitors is that there are FAR more people with Internet access than there were 17 years ago. But they reason I suspect I'd get less participation is that visitors are generally far more engaged on s…

Hello my Name is Alvin Bernard Dunston. I am the author of Baby Girl, my first book. It's available as a paperback and Ebook in all digital book stores. I would like the book to be available on AALBC, since it's loosely based on a black dysfunctional family, and I am a self published black author, also it's an inspirational story that tells how a girl survives child abuse in the form of neglect, poverty, and bullying at school. it's for readers 13 and older because some of the subject matter isn't suitable for children under 12, such as, drugs, alcohol and prostitution.https://www.barnesandnoble.com/w/baby-girl-alvin-bernard-dunston/1130710591

The video below from Princess Weekes made me really consider phenotype or other forms of race from black writers in black fiction and the interpretation in film. One of the big differences with black literature is very little black literature made before the 1900s or even before 1950s has been made into movies. And, whenever literature is made into film, it suffers from the simple reality that a reader visualizes in their mind and the uniqueness of each reader gives each character in a book infinite faces, but a viewer of a film has their visualization filled by the video so the viewer has to compare or contrast and sequentially while readers are free of interpretin…

There was an American animated television series featuring Tooter Turtle and The Wizard. Mr. Wizard lived in a tiny cardboard box at the base of a tall tree (something like The White House). Tooter would knock on the cardboard box, to ask another favor. From inside the box, Mr. Wizard would shrink Tooter small enough to enter through the box's front door, and eagerly invite him in. Mr. Wizard has the magic to change Tooter's life to some other destiny, usually sending him back in time and to various locales. Since none of Tooter's alternate lives ever worked out, the moral of each segment was always the same: "Be satisfied with your lot." When Tooter's trip finally b…

There are a wide variety of titles on our list of 40 of the most popular books read by African Americans over the last few months. Check out all of these titles, I've pulled together videos, reviews and more. Looking below the surface: Here is a list of the conglomerates publishing the most popular books we are reading (This view is not shared on the menu of the powerlist website). MOTOWN MAN By Bob Campbell Urban Farmhouse Press November 2020 Pages: 200 ISBN-13: 978-1988214399 Contact: rhcampbellpr@gmail.com Synopsis: In Bob Campbell’s debut novel, we are presented with Bradley Cunningham a hard-working, dependable, loving man and capable automotive engineer. His focus, like so many of his fellow Midwestern workers and relations, has been work and helping to preserve a withering way of life in his Midwest industrial town. Bradley has done so rather than grapple with the meaning of his black identity. As if he had a choice. When Bradley meets and romances the woman of his dreams, he is drawn into a …

Hi everyone! I’m excited to join the forum. I’d like to introduce myself and share about my debut novel, which comes out Jan 9. I’m a New Orleans native who lives in Atlanta, and I write about complicated Southern families. My debut novel is about Ruth, Naomi, Martha, and Mary Gardin, who live in the fictional town of Edin, Georgia. They co-own a multimillion dollar peanut business, but their family is on the verge of falling apart. Although biblical knowledge isn’t needed to be drawn into the drama that rocks the Gardin family from the Christmas to Easter holidays, my novel combines the personality traits of female Bible characters with the relatability of their stories,…

In posting that "Wizard" attack on Chrishayden, carey, it's so obvious that you were miffed because Chris rejected your position by refusing to blindly support Obama, so you are now trying to "save face". You can't best Chris in this Obama debate, so you are trying to draw attention away from your failure by ridiculing a book he wrote, which no matter how flawed, is better than any of your efforts. You, of all people, are on shaky grounds trying to bash someone else's writing as bad as your inept meanderings into a maze of loose ends are. The only thing your sophomoric attempt to get even with Christ does is to prove how petty you are. Plus, you continue to ov…

This seemingly intangible circumstance brings about a condition many individuals in our global society are relentlessly seeking: balance. In order to acquire balance within our social structure, we must look to the demographic of our society that displays the most blatantly obvious example of inequality. In a “so-called” intellectually advanced society, why are some of the most substanti…

I started reading this book recently, African-American Philosophers: 17 Conversations, it made me think about another conversation on this discussion forum, “Who's filled the intellectual void after James Baldwin?,” which I initiated in reaction to the Toni Morrison blurb of Ta-Nehisi Coates new book, the Power List Best seller, Between the World an Me ; “I’ve been wondering who might fill the intellectual void that plagued me after James Baldwin died…clearly it is Ta-Nehisi Coates.” While this is a bold statement I did not initially take it seriously, as authors typically exaggerate when endorsing another author's book. But given that it was T…
