  1. Still true. Right now, they are trying to pass a bill that will put more money into infrastructure improvements. The bill has been carved up from what POTUS originally had in mind. I guess they'll take whatever they can get at this point considering the political gridlock.
  2. The arrogance of the US is that it can sail anywhere it d8mn well pleases and if China wants to get their emperor-wannabe filled Navy wiped off the map, that's on them. I do not advocate violence unless it's for self-defense. The US will not act without provocation. But, once aggravated, all h8ll will break loose. Trust and believe...China does not really want any parts of what the US can give it land, sea and air. I know this factually.
  3. @Stefan, the US doesn't *need* China for anything. It's a relationship built on greed. There was a point in time that Made in the USA meant something. There is no shortage of labor, skill and talent stateside. American companies left factories high and dry. Plenty of well-paying blue collar jobs flushed down the drain. Greed is the only reason the US is sticking its proverbial hand in a lion's mouth that is now China. It's cheaper and more profitable to have goods made in China. Same goes for getting oil from the Middle East. A handful of wealthy white folks are using the US military as a security force. Don't get me started on Africans allowing foreigners to pillage the land and take natural resources.
  4. @Delano, you're absolutely right on both accounts. The biggest nations in the world have been doing this 2 step dance for a half century and counting. Still, I believe all of the posturing, saber rattling and displays of strength is really to keep other countries in check. The US and China and Russia and the rest all know that a world war would be bad for business.
  5. Here we are over 50 years later and the conditions that bred cats like the late Claude Brown remain unchanged. Voices like his are still necessary. It takes black folks who've lived both sides of the struggle to reach the younger generation and save them from becoming wayward and/or put them on a different path. A social worker on a salary doesn't have it. A message is better received when the listener either feels and/or believes the messenger shares a similar background and experience. In other words, knuckleheads rarely listen to squares and nerds. That's why Hip-Hop music is so powerful. Where folks might not be inclined to pick up a book, they will listen to music. Too bad not enough of those artists use their voices to teach and uplift the younger generation either.
  6. Hey Greg...we want Cynique back immediately. I'm curious to know what the cautionary tale is and how her behavior was reckless. None of this happens under difference circumstances i.e. no dust up between Russia and Ukraine and the US providing support. Otherwise, sista Brittney has no issues traveling back and forth to Russia with her cannabis oil weighing less than a stick of gum and hooping to make extra bread in order to feed her family. Besides, it's not like she was smuggling nuclear material into their country and/or stealing secrets from them. In the grand scheme of things, the crime is totally ridiculous. The punishment based on man-made *laws* and in this case political pressure, is a complete miscarriage of justice. If I were to consider this a cautionary tale especially for athletes and entertainers...petition American employers to pay enough money for your talent that there is no incentive to leave the country in order to make money elsewhere. The WNBA should be paying its players enough money so that they don't have play overseas to make ends meet. That's the fight sista Griner should take up when she gets back home.
  7. He is the current personification and face of white supremacy. That's why there is is milquetoast opposition to him among white folks. He's the very loud and obnoxious relative who shows up at family gatherings and embarrasses everyone but they still love him.
  8. Interesting article. Amazing to *know* so much about the defense capability of another country. From the 1960s through 1990s, the main *adversary* to the US was the former Soviet Union. Nowadays, the US is keeping its eyes on Russia, China, North Korea and Iran. I realize being the sole Super Power country in the world carries a lot of weight. China is the US labor force. We trust a threat to produce a great deal of the goods Americans consume. Seems like a toxic relationship. One doesn't have to constantly watch its back unless enemies have been made and/or there a stronger desire to maintain power and dominance by any means necessary. Globally, there is enough defense capability to wipe out all of humanity. That doesn't make good sense at all.
  9. The Department of Justice (DOJ) has arrested and charged former police officers who were responsible for the raid and firing shots that led to Breonna Taylor's death. It took almost 2. 5 years to bring these killers to justice but better later than never. I hope AG Merrick Garland brings a solid case against them. Breonna Taylor's family has already won a civil suit. Putting these murderers behind bars would bring justice full circle.
  10. No. I certainly understand your vitriol for the right wing as well. I'm saying (writing) that we keep the clown relevant by mentioning him. But, he's going to crash and burn soon enough. His followers are getting weary. It's probably a good idea to start sharpening that sword against that clown in training Ron DeSantis.
  11. The situation definitely does not warrant such an extreme. It takes a lot more than a bogus cannabis oil charge and a prison sentence to go to war. The wheels of diplomacy are still spinning and will prevail. Don't sweat it. Our sista will be home before the holidays.
  12. I'm sure the CEO and his team will find a way to absorb profit losses whether it is through cross-collateralization and/or cost-cutting and rebranding under-performing outlets. I don't believe they are hemorrhaging cash to the point of having to take drastic measures.
  13. No surprise that sista Brittney Griner was sentenced to almost the maximum. She's a political pawn. No worries. She'll be home in a few months. The US government and Russia just have to work out details of the prisoner exchange. Exhibit A...Trevor Reed.
  14. The media makes money in covering him. OTOH, the folks who keep mentioning his name aren't getting a dime for reminding us that he's an idiot and a racist. We already know that much.
  15. @Cynique, you're absolutely right in that we could have black female POTUS sooner than later if the Commander-in-Chief goes down. Hillary Clinton did win the popular vote by 3 million. But, she did not carry the states that POTUS Obama had won previously. Sadly, it was at that point that I knew she was going to lose the election. The electoral college is here to stay. I'm hoping that in my lifetime, a POTUS candidate will emerge who is capable of overcoming the red/blue divide and winning the election by a landslide. It would be awesome to see a POTUS of who America can be proud and unashamed.
  16. The reason Hillary Clinton lost is 2016 is simple...white men were not ready for a female POTUS. They would have seen it as a victory for feminism. White men are having a hard enough time keeping their women from going to work and putting off childbirth and driving cars. I predict that America will not see a female POTUS until the 2030s and more than likely, the 2nd half of it.
  17. The media is in the business of selling news. There's no incentive for them to stop covering the clown that was POTUS. He's a cheap ticket. That leaves the audience with more money to spend on drinks and concessions. However, there is nothing to stop you from attacking the former clown-in-chief at every turn.
  18. Humans are highly organized in terms of how we survive but I wouldn't brag about us running the world. Interesting opinion. I haven't professed faith in a Creator. While human beings have accomplished a lot, I do believe at the most basic level we've been the same creature for thousands of years. I'm eternally optimistic that humanity will be better in the future. I'll be long dead though.
  19. @Delano, I'm not religious so I don't get into homosexuality as an affront to the Supreme Being. I certainly do not condemn how folks choose to practice their sexuality as long as it's not in violation of others. Again, I don't believe anybody should be abused or mistreated regardless of their choices.
  20. Take sexuality. Whatever an individual chooses in terms of their own sexuality does not give them the right to force or impose it on others nor can they demand acceptance of it. At the same time, that individual should not be abused or mistreated because of their choice(s) in sexuality. Of course, there are many places throughout the world that disagree with me in that regard and levy harsh penalties including death. Science has been looking for alternative ways to facilitate the process of human procreation for a long time. So far, the in vitro fertilization (IVF) success rate is not very good. No doubt...scientists will continue monkeying around. As a gambling man, I'm putting my money on the Supreme Being keeping procreation under wraps. Human beings will never be able to clone themselves to the point of significant viability. Our perception of being intellectually superior to primitive animals is a form of narcissism. For as smart as humans beings think they are, we do a lot of dumb and unnecessary sh8t. Some of it even leads us to an early nap in the cemetery. @Cynique, as a musician and a philosopher, there are no limits to the expanse of my imagination. It is easy to do but unwise to make assumptions solely based on written words on a discussion forum.
  21. @Delano, I totally agree that individuals should be free to make their own choices. However, no one should force or impose their choices on others. At the same time, folks should not get bent of shape when others do not agree with and/or support their choices. Nobody should be abused and/or mistreated for their choices as long as they are not in violation of others. Every tribe can find like-minded members. Ideally, we should live and let live.
  22. That's how the Supreme Being planned it. Ongoing for thousands of years. Human beings have been around for thousands of years and it still takes a man and a woman to procreate. Not two dudes or two chicks. No third sex has emerged either. Human sexuality has always been the same too. But, there's a reason bisexuality and homosexuality is considered unnatural throughout most of the world. Granted, we have advanced on several levels in terms of survival, human beings haven't evolved that much in their most basic desires and fundamental roles.
  23. I think you're giving both them and him way too much credit. They don't see Walker as a colored overseer. Only as the token fool he's chosen to put on full display.
  24. Attention allows the former POTUS to maintain relevance in the public square. The sooner people get over him, he'll fade into the rearview. *If* the desire is to keep the former POTUS from getting re-elected, the effort needs to be placed on changing the hearts and minds of his base. Hollering and screaming at a handful of black GOPers and non-voters will not move the needle one bit. It requires appealing to folks within those diehard red states. Otherwise, there appears to be cracks in the GOP that could lead to a split from the former POTUS and alignment to his challengers.
  25. That's definitely a part of their existence. A male cub is allowed to stick around until he's sexually mature. Then, it's time for him to bounce and leave the pride. Young adult males go on their way until they have the social maturity and requisite skills and strength to challenge for and build their own pride. Rinse and repeat. Male and female lions know their roles instinctively. There is no confusion.
