Get paid for selling your own book and track how frequently your link is being clicked! http://runt.it/join_amazon Attention all authors! Here is something you must do: Sign up of as an Amazon Associate. Far too often I see author post links here, and elsewhere, for other to purchase their book from Amazon, and they are not an Amazon Associate – that is simply leaving money on the table. When I post an advertisement for an author or publisher on AALBC.com; if they provide me a link to Amazon without an affiliate code, I use AALBC.com affiliate code – someone needs to get that commission. That is not the only benefit, check out the article.

This book is not only controversial, provocative, and intelligent, it is also thought-provoking and relatable. The book is set in the city of Chicago, and is meant to spark important conversations, especially among the African American Community. Here is the synopsis for the book: When Journey Banks has a near death experience, she gets a revelation from an unlikely stranger that will change the course of her life forever. With her new compass for living, she eventually discovers that a choice she made caused a butterfly effect that crashed into the lives of everyone she knows. As each person is touched by the waves of Journey's decision, now they are al…

The House at Sugar Beach: Helene Cooper Helene Cooper is "Congo," a descendant of two Liberian dynasties -- traced back to the first ship of freemen that set sail from New York in 1820 to found Monrovia. Helene grew up at Sugar Beach, a twenty-two-room mansion by the sea. Her childhood was filled with servants, flashy cars, a villa in Spain, and a farmhouse up-country. It was also an African childhood, filled with knock foot games and hot pepper soup, heartmen and neegee. When Helene was eight, the Coopers took in a foster child -- a common custom among the Liberian elite. Eunice, a Bassa girl, suddenly became known as "Mrs. Cooper's daughter." For years …

Ghetto Tony And White Trash Tina – Free For Christmas Tony Kelly and Tina Watson were respectively known as Ghetto Tony and White Trash Tina when they attended a high school for academically gifted students years earlier because of their poor economic and social status compared to their classmates. Years later the two ex-classmates from opposite sides of life met at a high school reunion and found that they were both in the illegal drug business. Tony and Tina decided to join forces and try to boost each other’s drug influence by moving Tony’s urban oriented drugs into Tina’s rural area and Tina’s country cooked methamphetamine drugs into Tony’s city customer base.…

I was greatly impressed by Mr. Johnson's sobering and honest presentation of the problems we face as authors after seeing him on a C-Span panel a week or two ago. I was impressed enough to join your forum. You just cut through the bullshit and hype. It also forced me to try to come up with a solution for a number of problems. Here is one I offer up here for discussion and critiques. For black authors facing low literacy rates in their communities, the suggestions I make here may be the new face of writing. Not necessarily the graphic novel. Comic books perhaps could have done the job but comics can't here. Why? Because many individual black comic artists and writer…

Shaun is a publisher of African writers. The book Forbidden Fruit, shown in the video preview image below, was featured in our last eNewsletter. The crazy thing is that before I met Shaun in person (we first connected online) I assumed he was a Black woman! I guess I that was just pure unadulterated prejudice. At any rate, I was no less impressed by his work. In fact, this is one of best video videos I shot in a long time. Well first I broke down and purchased a microphone so much of the background noise present in my earlier videos is not present. But the main reason is that Shaun presented so well. I did not have to edit a second out of the video--this wa…

The book club I have been working with The Tea actually selected Tayari's novel An American Marriage for the February Reading list, for which the topic was romance. The video below showed the selection process. The book club's discussion has taken place and I'm a guest participant. That video will be published later this month. I'm hoping the fantastic attention generated by being an Oprah selection will draw more attention to The Tea's Videos. The video below shows the selection process. Basically The Tea shoots three videos for each month's selection. The selection process (the video below), the get to know the author video (these videos are…

The Senator from Florida, Marco Rubio, has woken from his slumber. He posted on Facebook, “Sadly, Daylight Saving Time is coming to an end yet again.” Such an important issue in the overall scheme of things. Thank you for your insight. Now he is proposing a bill to stop federal dollars from going to colleges that enable anti-American terrorist supporters. What the hell does that mean? How do demonstrations at Universities enable terrorist supporters? We have Nazis marching in Florida and you and the Governor are silent. I asked him to name the groups. No response. This is dangerous because Republicans can use this to affect voting from young peop…

This was a project I've been talking to a number of people about. Deliberately choosing to make a book a NY Times Bestseller. I joined others in a national effort to place Victoria Christopher Murray's new novel, Forever an Ex (Touchstone, June 17, 2014), onto the NY Times Best-selling books list. Like opening weekend for a film, the date surrounding a book's publication are very important, specially the week before and the week after are crucial. We are trying to generate as many sales as possible up until Saturday June 21st. The book is available at where book are sold. Here are some links I recommend: MahoganyBooks: http://aalbc.it/4evermb…

This came to me in an email from the American Booksellers Association. They host a weekly Zoom conference "Coffee Break." It strikes me as absurd that an organization purportedly advocating from booksellers would expressly prohibit conversation about boycotting the monopoly Amazon. Damn, it should be the ONLY freaking thing they are talking about! But Amazon can bring a publisher to it's knees by refusing to carrier their books. Remember how Amazon pimp-slapped Macmillan. Antitrust Guidelines The booksellers in the room (virtual or otherwise) are, by definition, competitors. This means that under the law, they are prohibited from di…

Layla spent the first eight years of her life in a loving home with her grandparents. That comfort all ended once welfare caught up with her mother who was still receiving food benefits for her. After moving to her mothers’ home, the dysfunctional relationships continued for years. Layla was abused emotionally, physically, and sexually. She looked to her mother for love and protection but never found it. Layla’s mom, Val, often told her she looked like a boy and would never amount to anything just like her dad. Layla began connecting with the wrong men for what she thought was love. Several of those relationships produced children and ended just as quickly as they began. …
