  4. What you are about to read is my 1st homework assignment for Gotham Writers' Workshop. I created this narrative based on my African-American cultural experience. My perception of Mr. Sanders may well be different from others due to my prior knowledge of the man. The Bernie that you will read about comes solely from my limited research and overactive imagination of what he might be like in the mornings. The homework assignment was to pick one person from a list of people that intrigued me. I was tasked with writing a scene showing this person getting up in the morning and getting ready to go out. I had to imagine my person getting out of bed, asking myself whe…

Or will you make us wait? You ever read "The Old Man and the Sea"?

  12. Last night as I watched the movie about Thurgood Marshall, I wanted to share a lil' something about one of his greatest feats which was Brown, but do you know what really went down? Well, here's the real deal. Can you say conspiracy! The conspiracy began with Felix Frankfurter, a Supreme Court Justice, who had been a director of the NAACP for 18 years. First off, Frankfurter should not have been allowed to hear the case brought on by the NAACP due to a conflict of interest. Additionally, Frankfurter was in direct contact with Thurgood Marshall even though such contact was illegal. Despite this, the preliminary vote in the case was 6-3 against Brown. With so much at…

I shared the following quote on Facebook and Twitter just now; “While media attention has waned in recent years, the demand for, and publication of, Urban Fiction has not.” As we all know, you should not take anything you read on social media at face value. Most of what we read there is designed to drive engagement and sell advertising. Out right lies, hyperbole, and controversy are tools of the trade. In this case, I was exaggerating. While it is true that the media has moved on from Urban Fiction, years ago, the resulting lack of attention and other factors have indeed driven down demand for these titles. Books by authors like Terr…

I have not seen another website that displays book cover images so big—no one, who visits AALBC.com, can miss seeing these large book covers. The images appears on virtually every single AALBC.com webpage. Which means the book covers will be seen far more frequently that the $1 per day advertisements, which only appear on a few pages. Click through ratios of 1% or more are typical. 1% is a very high click through ratio, and means 1 out of every 100 visitors who sees the large book cover will click it. …

I recently blogged about the fact that most authors who post links to Amazon do not take advantage of Amazon's affiliate program. http://aalbc.it/oWrxtM Someone tried to explain to me why authors do not take advantage of it, by saying they just don't care and are not interested. This seems so illogical because Amazons commisions can be 7, 8% or more depending upon sales -- often exceeding even the author's share of a book's sale. But based upon the acitivity on my latest Blog post on the subject, there seemed to be little interest in the whole issue. Of course the more sophistciated authors are aware of the commisisons that can be earned. Some authors who li…

Gregory Christie, Floyd Cooper, and more, to create some terrific books for children. Often you don't see these books -- even the in major bookstores, which historically made these books effectively nonexistent were it not for the web. Some of these titles win children's book awards and gain some level of success and prominence, but still readers seem to be under the impress that there aren't very many Black book being produced. The issue s really one of awareness rather than supply. #readingblack

Dr. Sebi Speaks of Dembali is a nonfiction book. Part memoir. Part social commentary. It's steeped in the observations of alkaline herbal medicine specialist Dr. Sebi, legally named Alfredo D. Bowman. He coined dembali to address why we reject the good in matters of health, race, family, and culture. Dembali is the lens he used to observe these challenges. It is the same lens he viewed solutions. From rage to solemnity in a Honduran setting reminiscent of a fireside chat with the author--that's Dr. Sebi Speaks of Dembali. You can view the book's cover in this blog. https://www.sojourntohonduras.com/single-post/2020/06/17/past-present-coming-soon
