  1. What is your favorite Science Fiction movie? And why? Do you believe in Aliens? Extraterrestrials? Extra sauce? Have you ever seen a UFO? Been aboard one? Did you have to pay? (If you got a butt probe, that means you paid). I have no further comment on that.
  2. @daniellegfny has there been any progress in the last six months. If so can you tell me what has happened. The late Congressman John Conyers first introduced H.R. 40 more than 30 years ago on the heels of the passage of the Civil Liberties Act of 1988
  3. I'm more concerned with the ability and effectiveness of BLM in their messaging and pursuit of justice on behalf of black folks. ๐Ÿ˜Ž
  4. A "study" is merely the process of asking questions, collecting information, analyzing and evaluating evidence, drawing conclusions, and sharing knowledge. Too much room for smoke and mirrors leaving it up the government. There's no accountabiilty; checks and balances. If the commission decides reparations is not worth pursuing, then what becomes the recourse for ADOS. I believe an independent commission led by intelligent AfroAmericans should take up the task of defining reparations and how it should be enumerated and compensated to ADOS. No doubt...reparations is a very tall order. As @Delano mentioned, it's not likely to happen for a number of reasons. Mainly because America would just as soon everybody forget slavery ever existed. ๐Ÿ˜Ž
  5. No. I noticed that hasn't been any movement in regards to this for about six months. I also checked to see if any older more established papers had reported the story. Reparations is not likely to happen for more than one reason. Even the commit vote to "study" reparations was overwhelmingly in favor. The last time Black people were valued was during Slavery However if your answers is predicated on me reading a twitter feed of a USA Today story that's 9 months old. I understand your not answering my question.
  6. @KENNETH, black filmmakers should definitely be taking advantage of alternative outlets. However, instead of relying on Hollywood, YouTube or Netflix, black folks need to develop an ownership mentality to invest in and build our own platforms.๐Ÿ˜Ž
  7. The maximum sentence those 3 accomplices could face is life imprisonment. I believe the feds will be more lenient on the 3 of them since they let the ringleader cop a plea to 20-25 years. I suspect these 3 will get 10 years or less. However, they still face state charges in June. If they are found guilty by the state, that sentence will probably run concurrent with the feds. If all goes well for those 3, they could be free again in less than a decade. ๐Ÿ˜Ž
  8. I don't want to deny or downplay the importance of the film industry or Hollywood in particular. However people who make movies especially blacks exist in a different technological and distribution landscape than even twenty years ago. There are all kinds of black films made outside the Hollywood system. Moreover the ability to stream movies even on platforms like YouTube is making the traditional studio system and movie theatres almost obsolete. There may not be as much fame or fortune doing things outside Hollywood, however there is a degree of freedom unlike anything black filmmakers have experienced before. Moreover don't forget Tyler Perry who has his own studio in Atlanta. I think Stefan has it absolutely right.
  9. @Stefan is correct. As there are very few black-owned movie theaters in the US, black cinema has to compete with Hollywood for screens. Interestingly, AMC Theaters is the largest movie chain in the world. The largest single shareholder in the company is a Chinese conglomerate. ๐Ÿ˜Ž
  10. A commitment to the military will pay for that child's college education. The parents end up saving money. ๐Ÿ˜๐Ÿ˜Ž
  11. I doubt any real child (under 12) is going to discuss with their parents or caregivers about their wishes to join the U.S. military. Children are mainly interested in playing their favorite video games, watching their most admired movies or videos and hanging out with their closest playmates. However, if you're talking about a teenager, I can understand the question. I am curious why you chose to use a promotional poster from a 1984 motion picture about an investigation into an Army's Sargent's murder in Louisiana during World War II.
  12. At this juncture in black history, i find the questions "what types of leaders do back people need?" a rhetorical one, not rising to the level of seriousness, Sorry, Del. America is the origin of the "rugged individualism" ideal, as I'm sure you know. Which begs the question, who leads the white masses? The Asian ones? The Hispanic ones??? Why do black people need leaders?? Why must they be on an eternal quest for a captivating man on a white horse to lead them?. Why, among blacks, is there always a yearning for a savior? if Jesus can't get the job done, then who can? When are America's step children going to grow up and become independent? When are they going to realize that when they do unite. it becomes a matter of misery loving company and never reaps permanent results, done in by the egos of mortal men and the seductive corruption of power. Prominent figures are, of course, worthy of being respected and appreciated but I find myself raising an eyebrow at the idea of Miles Davis, in particular, being a black leader. This ill-tempered, wife-beating, heroin addict may have been a great trumpet player who took jazz to another level but that wasn't enough to land it in the mass popularity zone. Yes, he played by his own rules and defied white convention but he died of sickle cell anemia, being nursed by a rich white female patron. A dubious role model. Barack Obama achieved the epitome of leadership but never commanded the unanimous approval of black folks because they are multi-faceted and are not of one mind, black men being among his harshist critics, accused by some of being driven by jealousy. Many older blacks remain mired in the slavery mentality that keeps them congregated in churches, praying for a Moses to lead them to the promised land. But upcoming generations pay homage to the almighty dollar that this Capitalistic society promises to those who learn how to "play the game". The black diaspora grows more diversified by the year, and the idea that individuals can command the loyalty of this multitude of non whites is wishful thinking. The answer to the perennial question about "what black folks need to do" is: Aspire to live your best life and, along the way, each one teach one. But always keep in mind that - the Universe doesn't give a damn about you. ๐Ÿ˜œ
  13. @Mzuri, that number came from this chart posted earlier in the thread. ๐Ÿ˜Ž
  14. True. I think Mike Pence, Chris Christie and Mitt Romney to name a few will toss their hats into the ring as well. ๐Ÿ˜Ž
  15. Brotha Colin Kaepernick will one day be recognized as a modern day hero for AfroAmericans. He doesn't hate America nor the police. He took a stand (knee) against supremacy and police brutality in America. It took 4 years for the NFL to acknowlege what he was trying to tell them with his protest. Unfortunately, not enough AfroAmericans took a knee with him. Here we are almost 6 years after Kap took a knee and a former black head coach had to file a lawsuit in order for the NFL to admit it that it has a diversity problem within the coaching ranks. AfroAmericans need more heroes like Colin Kaepernick and Brian Flores. I hope they continue using their platform to usher in a new era of black activism. ๐Ÿ˜Ž
  16. ************************************************************************************ How dare you tell people that they don't read anything that they are linking to. CRT IS being taught in schools, to CHILDREN. Why do you think parents are up in arms about it? PROVE that it's not since that's YOUR assertion. ************************************************************************************
  17. One of my kids got a Con Ed (NYC Utility company) for over $400 -- for a small studio apt! She said there was an across the board hike. So it is not just rents.
