  1. Baby Girl got her father shook! We know who Emily is bringing home for dinner once she's old enough. And what she saw is exactly what the rest of the world sees - and FEARS. So, let's flip the script here and recognize the power of the Black man. When a Black man speaks, everyone listens. I don't even know if we're aware of it. But I saw three women, powerhouses in publishing, all shut up when Troy, the only black person on the WSJ panel, started speaking. Image consultant and multimillionaire Kevin Samuels passed away last month and is still trending on Twitter. Women will take to the streets and protest a state-sanctioned execution of a Black man. Every time. If the Supreme Court overturns Roe, these legislators better prepare for all the "beige" babies about to come into the world. We already know - we already see it. Even privileged women select "chocolate." Kardashians. And I get it… Black women with much less will go into debt to give birth to and raise a black man's child by any means necessary. I couldn't figure out why there's been a lot of derogatory talk on this forum about Black Men lately… One dude even wrote he couldn't believe Black women could be so stupid for loving Black Men. But it couldn't be more evident through all the propaganda, rhetoric, hate, and jealousy. Emily got it right.
  2. I was about to say you need to be curious to have an open mind - and then I looked at the article and curiosity was number 1! I used to believe critical thinking was key to intelligence - but now I’m leaning towards curiosity and creativity. In fact, if it’s true we only use 10 percent of the brain’s capacity -then 90 percent is iMAGInation. 🪄
  3. The guys above look better than Greg does in real life
  4. These fellas may be still recruiting new members. 😎
  5. @Greg Oh, stfu. As if i owe you any explanations. I will however, give you what your deserve. I am an American by accident of birth, and couldn't care about being a better one because I don't do patriotism. You won't see me getting bleary eyed at the sight of that red white and blue polyester banner flapping in the breeze. What i care about this jive-assed country amounts to very little. And spare me a recitation of what you find when you consult your files for "retorts to hostile black sistas" because I am an equal opportunity cynic. Afro centrism doesn't make my heart beat like an Ibo drum. But the innate essence of my blackness is what dissipates the stench of sorry-assed, right-wing nerds like you. Now, go crawl back under your rock. @Troy My father from time to time mentioned his "coal black" grandmother who he said was a freed slave, but he didn't go into detail about this, possibly because, as i recall, she was very old and possibly senile. Also, as a child, my family would make periodic trips to Nashville,Tennessee, to visit my maternal grandfather who looked like a white man. He was born a slave but was freed when he was a child. Floating around among my relatives are copies of the slave narrative he dictated as a participant in a project during the 1930s where crews went around the country recording memories of ex-slaves. i have read it, and because he was only a slave for about 6 or 7 years, there wasn't a lot to tell. I do remember him talking about his father and a posse of other black townspeople fighting off a raid of Klu Klux Klanners and sent them runnin'. Most of his narrative was about his later years as a free man. He eventually became a Deputy Sheriff assigned to keep peace in the black part of Franklin,Tennessee, where he lived...
  6. I believe that dude was trying to understand how/why black women love *bad* black men (thugs and gangsters for which there is a pathological reason. To Mel's point...rapper Rick Ross controlled the black-tie crowd during his Juneteenth performance this past weekend. The same audience had been stiff throughout the evening. Beyond racism, strong, intelligent black men are taking arrows from all directions including our own brothas and sistas too. Little Emily has planted a seed to confirm the sum of all her daddy's fears. 🤣😎
  7. We should give a slight nod to those who have the courage of their convictions. Being open minded can also include wishy washy fence sitters who just shrug their shoulders when it comes to issues. Open mindedness is best practiced when it proceeds taking a position. i am not always open minded, but i am aware of the fact that emotions influence my biases. When it comes to liberals and conservatives, i admit that I usually side with Liberals because I like them. They're cooler and more personable and compassionate and humorous than conservative stiffs who are square and corny and sappy.
  8. AfroAmericans already know the Russian/Ukrainian conflict is a dust up among white folks. Also, we would love for Britney Griner to make it back home too. But, AfroAmericans have bigger issues to deal with right here in America. Our folks can't buy a bag of groceries or worship in peace without fearing an AR-15 toting, hate-filled white boy is going to show up and start spraying the place like he's playing a video game. 😎
  9. The Dunning-Kruger effect is a type of cognitive bias in which people believe that they are smarter and more capable than they really are. Essentially, low ability people do not possess the skills needed to recognize their own incompetence. The combination of poor self-awareness and low cognitive ability leads them to overestimate their own capabilities.1 The term lends a scientific name and explanation to a problem that many people immediately recognize—that fools are blind to their own foolishness. As Charles Darwin wrote in his book The Descent of Man, "Ignorance more frequently begets confidence than does knowledge." https://www.verywellmind.com/an-overview-of-the-dunning-kruger-effect-4160740 Incompetent people, the researchers found, are not only poor performers, they are also unable to accurately assess and recognize the quality of their own work. This is the reason why students who earn failing scores on exams sometimes feel that they deserved a much higher score. They overestimate their own knowledge and ability and are incapable of seeing the poorness of their performance. Low performers are unable to recognize the skill and competence levels of other people, which is part of the reason why they consistently view themselves as better, more capable, and more knowledgeable than others. "In many cases, incompetence does not leave people disoriented, perplexed, or cautious," wrote David Dunning in an article for Pacific Standard. "Instead, the incompetent are often blessed with an inappropriate confidence, buoyed by something that feels to them like knowledge." This effect can have a profound impact on what people believe, the decisions they make, and the actions they take. In one study, Dunning and Ehrlinger found that women performed equally to men on a science quiz, and yet women underestimated their performance because they believed they had less scientific reasoning ability than men. The researchers also found that as a result of this belief, these women were more likely to refuse to enter a science competition.3 Causes of the Dunning-Kruger Effect So what explains this psychological effect? Are some people simply too dense, to be blunt, to know how dim-witted they are? Dunning and Kruger suggest that this phenomenon stems from what they refer to as a "dual burden." People are not only incompetent; their incompetence robs them of the mental ability to realize just how inept they are. Incompetent people tend to: Overestimate their own skill levels Fail to recognize the genuine skill and expertise of other people Fail to recognize their own mistakes and lack of skill So is there anything that can minimize this phenomenon? Is there a point at which the incompetent actually recognize their own ineptitude? "We are all engines of misbelief," Dunning has suggested. While we are all prone to experiencing the Dunning-Kruger effect, learning more about how the mind works and the mistakes we are all susceptible to might be one step toward correcting such patterns.
  10. @Pioneer1, yesterday, I saw that same pic of the brothas when I visited the National Museum of African American History and Culture (NMAAHC). Figured time spent in the NMAAHC was a cool way to celebrate the Juneteenth holiday. Of course it was not my 1st visit to the museum. The NMAAHC is a great place to learn some of our history. It makes me proud of my people and p*sses me off at the same d8mn time.🤣😎
  11. 😏 -Maybe you can catch a ride to school with the same Black people you told to learn proper "english" and sign up for some grammar and geography lessons yourself.
  12. Exactly! That's what caught my attention in that thread! I thought, wait, this dude is allegedly a Black man, and he decides' another Black man's worth? And then condemns the entire group of Black women for our mating decisions? He seemed to be jealous. It was an odd take. Kind of like those men who call themselves "Incels" - they don't understand why "women don't like "good guys" LOL. They forget women are hardwired for the continuation of civilization...and there are certain biological traits, including "strength, intelligence, etc., that we need to make that happen. Even though Emily objectified that man, her honesty was inspiring. 🤣
  13. No, ET, not yet! 💕 You have so much to share and I’m glad you are sharing it with us!
  14. I don't see how legal gun owning, hard-working white folks who buy firearms for self-defense would allow themselves to be robbed by black folks or anyone else for that matter. 😎
  15. The truth (no secret) is that white folks have been using Christianity to mentally enslave black folks for hundreds of years and counting. 😎
  16. As I mentioned above, I thought the article provided great info and advice and was very well written. 😎
  17. This quote from the article reflects a sentiment I often feel and expressed here: “Dogmatism is sometimes an attempt to keep things simpler and easier to understand. By rejecting alternative ideas that might challenge the status quo, people are able to minimize uncertainty and risk —or at least their perception of risk.“ The article also referenced 5 personality traits, one being “openness.” If someone is low on the openness scale and they are dogmatic you will never change their minds. Whether the subject is a political belief, a religious one, or a racial stereotype, these people hold onto beliefs very firmly.
  18. I got it! Greg is really UNCLE RUCKUS! 😮
  19. Some people will never offer workable or sensible solutions. Because they enjoy complaining. Only a renewed Respect for Life will make a positive difference. However, an increasingly number of people, inner city, suburban and rural, not only don't seem to not care about others, they revel in it. And what is worse, they believe they are correct for doing so. This is why disdain for others is rising. It's easy to hate.
  20. @Mel Hopkins@Troy OK. It is becoming increasingly clear that "Greg" is a phony because he is so extremely biased, and his statements are so patented. But now I can't resist tweaking his nose, making him earn his salary, What a crazy world we live in when it has come to this. My android smart phone is outdated and my FaceBook app accidently got uninstalled so i can no longer access this site. I am so disgusted with myself for being devastated by this catastrophic occurrence. TV, my computer and my phone, have become my puppet masters and exercise a ridiculous amount of control over my life. They are like addictions. I am currently reading one of Stephen King's 500 page books in a effort to wean myself, but it's hard. i come to this board, and before I know it I am caught up in arguments and debates that feed my aggression. What's a girl to do? If I make it to August, I'll be 89. Instead of getting older, I'm getting a second wind! Help! Hopefully, the Universe will have mercy on me, and call me home! 😳😵
  21. Greg Yeah, they are not out looking for revenge. Maybe they subconsciously felt that the acts on the part of those Black people were JUSTIFIED in some way and didn't require revenge. Ever heard of "White guilt"???
