  1. No. I made the statement in the context of thinking in terms of self-sufficiency. We shouldn't take for granted that jobs are going to be provided for us indefinitely.
  2. @Troy, I didn't mention the war on masculinity in the context of the movie. I could have not mentioned it in this thread. I can see how you or somone else would conflate it. Since I haven't seen the movie, I cannot disagree with @Pioneer1's interpretation nor am I asserting that it emasculates men. To avoid confusion in the future, I'll save my diatribe for the appropriate thread.
  3. I don't celebrate Kwanzaa but I think a few gift ideas: Water Seeds (vegetable) Soil Shovel Pick Ax Saw Gun Knife Hammer Screwdriver Wood Nails and screws At some point in time these items might become useful.
  4. Eventually, we will have no choice but to become more self-sufficient in creating opportunities that benefit us instead of waiting around for them. I believe if 100 AfroAmericans divided equally among men and women were thrown out into the wilderness with the tools required to survive, they would figure out how to feed, clothe and house themselves. Unfortunately, the current situation doesn't require us to think along those lines.
  5. @Troy, I'm not advocating this movie or anything about it specifically has to do with the war on masculinity or pussification of society. I just mentioned those efforts do exist in the grand scheme of things. That's why I ended my post with...it's entertainment. Enjoy the movie.
  6. @Pioneer1, regardless of the subject matter, whether it's history from millions of years ago to religion to the latest sports legends and everything in between, human beings like to discuss and debate stuff. Your point of investigating history and archeology and religion for ourselves makes sense because if it did nothing else, it could create jobs providing folks are willing to invest in it. The real questions are 1) what do we really want to know and 2) what are we going to do with the knowledge and/or truth. Otherwise, an obsession with the past would be a distraction and collecting data becomes an intellectual exercise in futility. I'd much rather Black folks concentrate on knowing the past in order to solve problems of the present and future. Right now, too many n8gglets are using history and religion as either an opiate to cope and/or a way to enrich themselves within the system of racism white supremacy.
  7. Movies are supposed to be a form of entertainment. However, there is plenty room for subliminal messaging On the surface, this film could be a version of Wonder Woman for Black folks. I wholeheartedly believe there's a war on masculinity. The pussification of American society started way before this movie was released. Otherwise, men who understand the goings on in America can sit back and eat their popcorn and enjoy the beautiful and wonderful Viola Davis doing her thing on the big screen. It's enterainment.
  8. @Chevdove, the research and analysis has already proven that a concentration in Science, Math, Engineering and Computers has the highest job placement rate. However, there are many students who will not excel in those areas of study. To that end, I agree that if we identify aptitude, talent, vocation and interest(s) of young people, it is possible to come up with the best fit academic track for those students too. Most importantly, AfroAmericans have to create more job opportunities so that our people can thrive and survive in society without having to depend on others for employment. White folks are already giving jobs to other minorities in order to displace Black folks. It's just a matter of time before they run out of lottery tickets, er, jobs. Then, White folks will be able to say...we've given you people 100 years to become self-sufficient. You should have consumed less (cars, clothes, houses, etc.) and invested in your own economic infrastructure. One dollar should exchange hands about 8 times within the same community before it ever leaves. AfroAmericans are way behind the 8 ball in that regard. That knowledge needs to be a part of the education too.
  9. My inner clown/comedian, cracks up watching the First 48 especially when they interview people in the blur with distorted voice. The other funny part is when the suspect finally breaks down either crying or slumped shoulders or rubbing their head and tells the truth.
  10. Absolutely. IMO, History, Science, National Geographic, etc., are more entertaining than *reality* TV.
  11. If we wait long enough, that idiot former POTUS 45 with the classified documents on his patio table might spill the beans about Area 51 and other information being held under wraps. Then again, knowing clown POTUS 45 was a loose canon, they probably didn't share the most highly classified info. I'd like to know why only a few people have gotten to see the UFOs. The aliens need to land the d8mn thing and get out.
  12. Well, Prince William did just inherit a billion dollars. This mf'er has never worked in as much as a pie factory. Neither did his granny or daddy. High class grifters. The whole lot of them.
  13. A by-product of the pandemic is that working from home has actually led to salaried people putting in longer hours too. Apparently, when working from home, it's easy for people to log-on to their work computer before plucking the boogers out of their eyeballs and brushing their teef and washing their azz. They get caught up in *working* and before they know it, the sun has set and their kids are getting ready for bed.
  14. The *problem* I have with our American educational system is that it's preparing people for jobs that either do not exist and/or may not exist in the future. In a few years, we won't need more folks sitting in cubicles spinning around in a chair and thinking all day. There will come a point in time that folks will have to actually *produce* something tangible. Raise your hand if you know how to grow a garden. Right now, there are plenty folks with degrees working menial jobs in order to survive because they can't find a job in their field. Nevermind that business administration isn't actually a career field.
  15. That doesn't make sense. Despite inflation, I see folks spending money every day with big azz smiles on their faces. Folks grunt, grumble and complain a little bit but still hand over their cash or credit card. Don't get me started on vacation and entertainment spending.
  16. "Ancient Aliens" is up to season 18 (2022) but you can binge watch from 2010 up to present.
  17. Since I don't watch sitcoms and reality shows, in addition to news and football, I watch History channel programs too. The subject of extraterrestrial beings and alternative life forms is interesting enough. I still approach it in the same way I do religion.
  18. The whole monarchy is an exercise in pomp and circumstance and high level grifting. Yet, the United Kingdom (UK) has upheld this tradition for centuries. A case study in consistency. You're right...the commonwealth is slowing dissolving. Those nations are tired of paying a tax for what little they get in return.
  19. @Troy, your post nailed it. Individualism and comfort here in America definitely make it harder for people to unify for anything. I've posted it several times but the illusion of an expanded middle class and gross consumerism are the opiates that keep Americans anesthetized. It takes a tragedy or a major situation for people to unite. Apparently, racism alone isn't bad enough.
  20. IMO, the end to racism and replacement of it with a system of justice (balance and fairness among all people) will happen when the Black man as God comes back. I don't know that He will manifest in our lifetime.
  21. There are definitely millions of White South Afrikkans who were born and raised there over several generations.
  22. IMO, AfroAmericans with high self-esteem, intelligence, knowledge and talents, etc., have a better chance of mitigating the ill effects of racism. But, that only benefits us individually. In a better adjusted society, the best of AfroAmericans would be held up as role models. That ship seems to have sailed a several decades ago. Unfortunately, many AfroAmericans have been conditioned to roll with the punches as it relates to racism. That indifference to racism makes it harder for AfroAmericans to build, connect and protect each other to any degree. Having beem divided and conquered leaves many AfroAmericans vulnerable to the pains of racism.
  23. Sure. As I wrote, POTUS carries responsibility more than power. There's a reason Build Back Better has been reduced to Clean Up Some.
  24. I hope the coloring contest isn't like the lottery where the winning ticket isn't sold anywhere near me.
