Buy a book, not a slave. This is a touchy subject, so work with me. Hip HiP Hurray! It’s Black History Month. But slow your roll Gym Shoes, what’s it all about? I get so tired of the multiple questions. You know, like , which of the following was the first black man on the moon: A) John H. Johnson John Hope Franklin C) Jean Baptiste Pointe DuSable D) Jesus Okay, that’s a trick question but Mr. DuSable died a pauper, but yet, he is remembered as a symbol of African American ingenuity and self-reliance. Boy, that’s something to remember. Here’s another great question. Who was the first “woman” Heavyweight Champion? A) Maggie Lena Wal…

I'm not sure what changed to allow the recent deluge of spammers to affect the board. To make matter worse, last night as I was deleted spam posts and accounts I made the unfortunate mistake of approving about 40 accounts that were clearly bogus. Because of another technical issue I'm unable to delete those accounts right now, but I will shortly. Thanks for your patience and to those of you that notified me of the problem.

  11. Netflix is going to be streaming a film version of Nella Larson's novella Passing(1930). The story is set in New York City circa late 20s/early 30s. It tells the fictional story of two very light skinned friends Irene Redfield and Clare Kendry. Irene stays within the black community and marries a black man. Clare passes for white and marries a racist white man. Much of the novel focuses on Clare attempting to conceal her identity from husband. For those who have not read the book or looked at the Netflix film, I don't want to be a spoiler and give away to much of plot. But like many trag…

Since this video was taken Obama has traded in Dr. West for Reverend Sharpton. Obama has also failed to live up to much of what he promised on the campaign trail, to a crowd of adoring supporters in Harlem's Apollo theater. The audience was virtually 100% Black. My oldest daughter and I were part of the audience. I apologize for the quality of the video but the words are loud and clear, It is fascinating to listen to the statements now more than 5 years later. While West's strong support of Obama was strong, he fully recognized Obama was no Dr. King, or Malcolm X. More interesting is what Barack said, about what he was going to do to support the Black communi…

The boycott forced me to consider other options and that was one of the top 3 things I ever did with this website! Sure, it is much more labor intensive physically, and administratively, selling books directly, but the revenue, from book sales, is an order of magnitude higher -- m…

Her words drew me closer. I couldn't wait to rest in her arms. Her voice had the mezmerizing tone of sweet drops of rest; rain lighty dropping on peddles out side my window. I called her my Goddess. This is not a Harlequin romance novel. It's about meeting someone who had touched my heart. She was beautiful on the outside but her words were my aphrodisiac. She expressed herself with the fearlessness of a wise queen. Her voice, although soft, aroused my soul like the anticipation on the night before Christmas. Heaven must be like this, it surely must be like this. I surmised that she could have chosen any man as her constant companion, which forced me to ask, wh…

Black Speculative Fiction, or what many call Afrofuturism these days, has been growing steadily during that time, so much so that many of the recent winners of such prestigious scifi and fantasy awards such as the Hugo and Nebula have been black writers, specifically black female writers. And with the release of Black Panther in February, many black readers have been asking where they can find books with the same feel as the movie. It's my hope to expose you to such books and the authors who write them. I hope that eventually AALBC will…
