  11. Started by A.J. Williams,

Have we forgotten the fallen? Many people have asked me since I've been promoting my novel why I wrote the book, and what I hoped to achieve. I realized that we are so awash with these stories in the news of police killing our young men, women, and children for so long that it has become the norm for many. Even when speeches are given or books are written, they only serve to tell us what we already know - the lives of the fallen or details of their killing. I wanted to examine these tragedies from a different angle. What if they killed someone and their surviving relative was ready to go to war? What if there was an organization who made the police as afraid …

Ours is the longest running and most visible bestsellers list focused on Black Books. As a result you will learn about book selling well, in the Black community, that will never show up in the venerated NY Times Bestsellers list. Sure there is some overlap with the NY Times list books like Caste, are popular in the white community too I would love to see all of the independent booksellers, who focus on Black books, come up with a bestsellers list, but that is a surprisingly difficult thing to do, for a variety of reasons. Here are the best selling books on AALBC for September and October of 2020. Read more here.

Python ate the Pangolin, Warthog, Deer, Parrots, even Porcupine with his quills was not exempt. He didn’t care what state the animal was in, as long as he could catch it, it was fair game. Reports started trickling in to Lion, the king. “Python just swallowed all my three babies,” Warthog …

A couple of days ago I was in there and the security guard walked up to me with the book and said, "Say, Boss1 Dis you?" I said, "Yes, that's me." I spent a few minutes with several of the staff fawning over me and lying (well let's say I was doing a little publicity). Man, you can't buy that. Now I gotta be careful not to get caught picking my nose in there or ogling pretty wimmens. Thank you, Kola Boof for insisting I have my picture on the back.

If I get it done in the next 6 months I'll be happy, indeed the success of this upgrade will almost certainly determine the future of AALBC.com. I don't mean from a technical perspective, I mean from a business perspective. Is there enough demand for a website dedicated to promoting Black literature, to provide a 1/2 way decent living? Over the last few years this has become increasingly difficult. Some of the changes I have in mind, include more interactivity, a customized CMS, fully mobile ready (to make Google happy), as well as a ton of content spanning almost 2 decades. The site will no…

I was reading the Wall Street Journal yesterday saw an interesting article, "Betting Big on Literary Newcomers." Of particular interest to me were the sisters who garnered seven figure book deals. It looks like the focus on African female novelists will continue. The most fascinating thing is that these humongous advances are going to debut authors. Apparently auctions drive up prices, but this is classic bubble territory as far as I'm concerned. From a business perspective a big advance better come with a big marketing budget as well. As a bookseller, I'm expecting some ad buys for these books. Then again handing out million dollar advances is one …

Why tamper with a good thing? Traditionally, in the African-American community, “hooking” was like home economics because selling coochie was what kept the cable turned on or what kept the lights from being turned off.
