The New York Times has identified 100 books from all the books they have reviewed over the past year to be the most "notable." Of that list 11 were books were written by Black* writers. Boy, if we depended solely upon The New York Times to identify notable books written by Black folks we'd be in for a world of disappointment. Black Issues Book Review was the only large circulation magazine devoted to books written by black authors. I talk about this magazine often. William Cox had sold it to the Brother that runs Target Market News, Ken Smikle. It is curious Ken does not mention this on his website's biography. At any rate by the time the magazine died, the surge in attention paid to Black books was already in run downswing. There are some indications that the pendulum is beginning to swing back as there seems to be renewed interest in Black books. 15 days down 351 to go :-)
