  1. The entertainment industry dictates everything from Hattie McDaniel in "Gone with the Wind" to blackploitation films, 1970s sitcoms, gangster rap, black reality shows, etc. AfroAmericans have to own studios, distribution companies, movie theaters, TV channels, radio stations, etc., in order to control the art they produce and narrative. As long as AfroAmericans are signing contracts and taking out loans to produce art, they're at the mercy of the money folks. 😎
  2. @daniellegfny In defense, many black people don't like superfly or sweetback. I can comprehend why they didn't, they do not, and they will not. Danielle, I know you know that for a time our forebears were enslaved to whites. But, doesn't that mean black people have the freedom to interpret the usa as they want? MAny of our forebears didn't want to be part of this country. I am not saying all. But no one can deny many black people forced from their home an ocean away, didn't want the trip, and died not getting what they wanted. Freedom from white people/the colonies of britian or the usa that came after it. So, in modernity, I don't see why any of us have a problem with some black people having an extremely different opinion to the arts , let alone anything else, when it isn't like our forebears planned for us to be here.
  3. It’s Older Black Democrats and Older White Republicans which are stopping more Blacks from joining the Republican Party. Still young Black men and women are waking up to the reality that the GOP holds the key to access to the American Dreams. The Biden administration is demonstrating how Big Government policies are making life harder for all Americans. It’s estimated that 25% of Black voters will be returning to the Republican Party.
  4. That bill failed because it was based on the lie of racial obstacles. What they were really attempting to do is get $6 additional from the federal government for each $1 fund raised. Most people in America who vote realize they are no barriers. If there were how did Raphael Warnock get elected? Why are more Blacks running for Congress? Bingo that sums up how most productive Black Americans feel. We aren’t in the 90’s. The adjustments needed in our society are not as large as before and we need to focus on building on our progress.
  5. I’m “pro Black,” but this is in direct reaction to the country we live in, so is being racist. I believe the science and reject the notion of multiple human races. That idea was created by so-called White people who began using race to practice racism. Black people can be racist as well. I actually have to work hard at not being racist. If a kid of mine married someone white I’d have no choice but to support my child and embrace their decision. i consider it a good thing that my kids are not as racist as i am or was. They never had to be...
  6. ProfD I’m afraid if we owned all the means of production and distribution of our entertainment, we would succumb to the same market forced White folks do and produce simulator or even worse material. “blackploitationfilms, 1970s sitcoms, gangster rap, black reality shows,…” are all are easy to create and make money. people who produce culturally important entertainment usually struggle. Are there any recent counter examples?
  7. That's inconsistent with current voting rights legislation in the senate. There's a reason Stacey Abrams has to crisscross the state of Georgia insuring that AfroAmericans have access to the ballot box. The state of Texas wasted no time after the last election introducing legislation making it harder for minorities to vote. Race based obstacles are the reason for voting rights legislation. 😎
  8. ************************************************************************************ Perhaps if you took the time to read some of the replies here you would get your answer. Better yet, why don't you re-read your own topic starter. Black people teaching their children to look at other races with suspicion is a form of racism. Being shocked and angry when your Black child marries a white person is another one. Throwing a party and only inviting your Black friends is racism. Black people practice racism just like all the other ethnic and racial groups. ************************************************************************************
  9. That’s not the history of all Black Americans. That’s the broad brush pablum that has been feed to people. The story of free will immigrants and free Black have been glossed over. Black People have been throughout the Globe prior to the European. Our “history” doesn’t stop at the story of slavery. And then you have the issue of Birthright citizenship. ADOS have a distorted sense of reality. This has been caused by the phenomena of White Supremacy. Blacks in America don’t share a common history. No not all their ancestors were brought to these shores in chains. Not all that were had to wait until Juneteenth to be free. Free Black Americans have existed in the Western Hemisphere from Europe since Columbus. Because the United States of American is pretty much the British seed on this soil that is were the focus has been. That’s one of the flaws of the 1619 project. It leaves out close at least 200 years of Black history here. My Grandparents on my Father’s side came through Ellis Island. They came from Trinidad 🇹🇹. My mothers family can be traced back to to Black men bought down to GA to be sharecroppers. My mother still has some of the land that has been passed down matrilineally. Just like Europeans migrated to the United States not all came in chains. Many of those who were bought here in chains didn’t stay here. Many more were born here. While the United States has participated foreign adventures it is not an empire. As for being hated, that’s debatable. America is a beacon of hope to millions. Those who dislike it have various reasons, but none of them outweigh the standards of living and freedom people have here. I am a proud American. And I realize that the country has more good than bad and is getting better every day. It’s my choice to strive to help it get better or hold resentment over phantoms. Politics flows upward not from the top down. When America was a young nation, it was ok to have a lot of foreign nationals participating in the voting process. However you had to be a male property owner. The City Government is where the allocation of resources and jobs comes from. You will find Black Americans getting pushed to the side by non citizens because they have a higher degree of identity, organization and access to foreign resources. Net results those in impoverished communities will suffer from greater instability.
  10. No, nels is black and is definitely an equal opportunity commender and offender. | "errant assertions" ? It's what I've aggregated over the the many decades of my life. If you don't agree with it, that's your right, and your problem. Time and time again, disconnected and unplugged black people try to obfuscate through BS responses when they don't like their dirty laundry aired. | "Nel's vituperative diatribe against Black people" ? Black people are their own worst enemy and I don't give flying 'F' if they can't see past the gaslighting they are enduring from the Democrats and the Left. However, they will increase their future success on an exponential scale if they jettison race and simply, pay attention to their own behaviors and what's happening around them. As for 'vituperative', stop trying to use BIG words to sound intelligent and instead, just say 'harsh, critical, scolding, etc.' IMO, your entire reply is emotional nonsense. Mzuri, and also as usual, you're spot on and definitely do understand what I am trying to convey. As a black American, I know all to well that you can't holler at others when you're digging a hole that you cannot climb out of. For some (both known and unknown) reasons, black America as a whole, is (nearly) unwilling to admit that it is not perfect, and it continues to look for an escape that does not force it to face its own deficits.
  11. Curtis Mayfield one of the most conscious black artist did the music for Superfly. He said it was a story about redemption. Sweetback is a runaway slave narrative. Which is referenced in a NWA track 100 hundred miles and running
  12. Do you know the Earth Wind and Fire did the music for Superfly? Also I think Melvin Van Peebles ran out of money during shooting. He got the funds from black entertainers. I believe Sidney Poitier and Harry Belafonte were among the donations
  13. @Stefan yes I know, I told some commentors already that the law only applies to voting in nyc, so it isn't a state level or federal level right in any way. and it demands non sentencing. I tried to explain all of that in the original post but I failed
  14. While I do not agree with this law, you should know that more than a dozen communities across the U.S. already allow non-citizens to cast ballots in local elections, including 11 towns in Maryland and two in Vermont. Non-citizens still wouldn’t be able to vote for President or members of Congress in federal elections. And they cannot vote in state elections for Governor, judges and state legislators. Puerto Ricans in Puerto Rico, who are U.S. citizens by birth, also cannot vote in presidential elections. .
  15. ************************************************************************************ I will assume that you are addressing me, since I am an open Conservative. In case you don't know about me, I am the daughter of a military family, an Army wife of a Vietnam veteran who served this nation for over fifty years, and I am a retired Department of the Army civil servant. I am committed to freedom and liberty, truth and dignity, because I AM AN AMERICAN PATRIOT! Freedom and liberty are under attack by a DEMOCRAT administration that, among other things, is attempting to force its citizens to take unproven and dangerous vaccines. A DEMOCRAT administration that violates its citizen's Constitutional rights by telling us what we can and cannot say. We can't call it the Wuhan virus, we can't call it the China virus, we can't call people illegal aliens, we must refer to them as non-citizens and on and on. Our human rights are being violated and you people are too dumb to know it. TRUTH and DIGNITY. Some of you have forgotten what TRUTH really is. The TRUTH is that we have a career liar and plagiarist in the White House. A plagiarist who had to drop out of the 1988 presidential campaign because he got caught using other politician's speeches and writings. Because he's too dumb to come up with his own original content. Biden is a chronic liar who lies about EVERYTHING. He made a bunch of ridiculous campaign promises that he didn't even bother to try to fulfill. He said he would eradicate COVID. As we all know, that is not happening. Biden recently declared that COVID is not a federal issue, that the states will need to deal with it. Biden's self-inflicted crises range from Keystone XL pipeline shutdown to open borders. Biden's entire family is corrupt. Biden uses his own son as a shill to conduct all of his shady business dealings, allowed him to use Air Force Two over four-hundred times while he was vice president. Now this stumbling, fumbling, mumbling idiot has caused so much damage to the nation, people are worried if we can ever recover. Second in line to Biden, we have Kamala Harris. A woman who is notorious for sleeping her way up the career ladder. A woman who has proven herself to be incompetent to hold her position. Whenever a journalist poses a serious question to her, she throws her head phony back and belly laughs. I am sick of it. I could write a book about this disgusting woman, but I won't since she's not even worth the bother. Third in line to succeed presidential office, we have the Speaker of the House, Nancy Pelosi, a woman who has enriched herself while in office to the tune of hundreds of millions of dollars. It has recently been revealed that she and her husband have utilized the information she received while in office in order to invest in the stock market. This is insider trading, it is illegal and in violation of the Stop Trading on Congressional Knowledge (STOCK) Act of 2012. Yet she is the one who attempted to impeach President Trump on numerous occasions for minor and made-up infractions, while she herself was engaged in criminal conduct. On top of that her own district is a dystopian disaster zone. Please don't talk to me about anything I post being bullshit when you and your cohorts are the ones posting a bunch of crap and lies. ************************************************************************************
  16. @MzuriOh put a lid on all the warmed over disinformation. I said Biden is doing the best he can. And he is. Anybody but a right wing parrot and purveyor of propaganda and subterfuge like you knows that no one person or party is responsible for all the problems in this country as you remain in denial about how the Retrumpicans are sabotaging democracy. You are totally under the thrall of the Big Lie and all the other untruths that are the underpinning of that alternate universe you are trapped in. Go somewhere and sit down. @ProfDThat makes too much sense for Mzuri to accept. Cognitive dissonance has claimed her and her fellow fanatic,Nels.
  17. ************************************************************************************ Whatever @Cynique. Times are difficult because Biden made them that way. But he has flunkies like you making lame excuses and trying to blame his disasters on others. Biden shut down the Keystone XL pipeline, laying off thousands of workers, causing us to become energy dependent, and that began a domino effect of one crisis after the next. There are supply chain shortages, because Biden's transportation secretary went on gay maternity leave at a critical time, instead of taking care of the citizens and government business, and now there are food shortages at the grocery stores, among other needed supplies that we don't have. But you dummycrats point out Biden's diversity. Biden's open borders policy has allowed hundreds of thousands of border jumpers to enter our nation, in violation of our Constitution. We have a legal process for immigrants to enter our nation, but instead there are criminals and undesirables here that nobody is tracking the whereabouts of. The Republicans will find them and deport them Violent crime has increased because of Biden's soft on crime and defund the police stance. Also due to Harris's bail-violent-criminals-out-of-jail fund. Republicans will restore law and order. The COVID pandemic that Biden promised to eliminate has only gotten worse. On top of that, he is violating people's rights by mandating they take an emergency use COVID vaccine. Republicans respect American citizen's Constitutional rights. Harris said that she would not take the Trump vaccine, and now nobody wants it. Biden needs to choose better people, actual professionals and not people who slept their way up the career ladder. Harris should moderate the crap that comes out of her mouth. Then we have Biden's failed Afghanistan exit, which caused several of our soldiers deaths, as well as multiple injuries, and leaving AMERICAN CITIZENS behind. We also left billions of dollars of military equipment behind. This wouldn't have happened under Republican's watch. These are just a few of Biden's crises. None of this would be happening if someone competent were in charge of government. But you keep on defending him. Flunky. ************************************************************************************
