Black Literature

Hi! I’m looking for help remembering the name of a book I read some years back. The only thing that sticks in my head is a scene in the book where the main characters meet at a stop light and the man is playing an India Arie song. I also believe the setting was in an Atlanta neighborhood. This was not a stand alone novel, it is part of a series. Does any of this ring a bell? Any help is appreciated! Thanks.

I think I'm a good read of people, and that was just the vibe she gave off. Marshall's passing comes less than a week after Morrison's.
