  2. OK while editing an article about African American Literature which mentioned the book, Running a Thousand Miles for Freedom by William Craft and Ellen Craft. The book tells the story of William Craft (1824 – 1900) and Ellen Craft (1826 – 1891) who were slaves from Macon, Georgia and escaped to the North in December 1848 by traveling openly by train and steamboat, arriving in Philadelphia on Christmas Day. She passed as a white male planter and he as her personal servant. [WTF?!] Their daring escape was widely publicized, making them among the most famous of fugitive slaves. Abolitionists featured them in public lectures to gain support in the struggle to end…

  3. Looking for a fast-paced post apocalyptic adventure? Here you go. 🙂 One hundred years after the Collapse, violence still rages across the region once known as Georgia. Warlords fight for control with deadly mercenaries known as Gunmen, and Moses Pritchard is one of the best. Tired of the constant violence, he finds solace within the walls of Newlanta, a city struggling to establish an island of peace amidst the chaos. But now the city is threatened by a powerful warlord Moses once served and he is forced to strap on his guns. However, this time he's fighting for his own reasons. 'Gunman's Peace is my flavor of post-apocalyptic fantasy. Moses Pritch…

I had an interesting conversation with someone who said that it’s impossible to write about something that you have not experienced on some level. What do you think? Is a wordsmith a storyteller with a vivid imagination that is able to disconnect from one’s own direct or indirect experiences? For me, I write what comes to mind and build from there - simply allowing my thoughts to flow (Random Thoughts) after which I review, rehash, develop and formulate until my hand tells me to stop. i even enjoy and appreciate the misspellings, the grammatical errors the various interpretations and uncertainties that result. for me, like art,…

Hello All, I figured I'd be the first one to post the first, What are you reading thread, on the new board. *smile* Well, I'll go first. I'm reading Victoire by Maryse Conde, which is a sort of memoir, biography, historical fiction novel. You all know how much I love Maryse Conde. I find her brilliant. She's one of my all time favorite writers of all times. So far, the small novel is turning out to be magnificent. I'll keep you posted.

As I slowly plow through AALBC.com's upgrade I'm constantly discover just how much I don't know about Black literature and it is fascinating. Most of us know Richard Wright for his bestselling novel, Native Son. I did not know Native Son was turned into a film back in 1951 (the film is on YouTube). I also did not know how many novels Wright had published, when I created his page many years ago, I found a few, today during the update I found 19 different titles Wright that has published including not only novels but nonfiction and poetry. It is also hard to appreciate today, just how prominent and influential Wright was in his day, given the complete lack of attenti…
