But Nels ignores Eileen Gu who was born in the U.S. and decided to ski for China at the just completed Olympics. In Nels' mind, Black people are the ONLY individuals he loves to lambaste, insult and attack. Everyone else gets a free pass. Self hatred amongst Black people has surged with the ascension of Trump, who incidentally approves of the brutal invasion of Ukraine and the anticipated assassination of democratically elected Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky. When reading Nels, you're reading a Fascist who would gladly do away with most Blacks.

@Troy That ridiculously exorbitant Con Ed bill is based on what? Anticipated power use and a hefty deposit? I ask because when Ukrainian refugees start arriving in his country, I bet special financial allowances will be made for them. This happened for many Russian Jews. Vacant apartments suddenly materialized in Brooklyn and Queens and rents were suspiciously lowered, but not for long time NYC denizens.

In the "The Debt: What America Owes to Blacks," Randall Robinson's intelligent take on Slavery Reparations, he suggested that no one should expect million dollar checks. Instead, they might enjoy a tax holiday or generous payments for colleges or trade school tradition. And that I agree with. I would not put faith in anyone who refuses to stay abreast of current news. H.R. 40 has languished in the House with no movement since April 2021. Basically, this legislation faces long odds and has less of a chance of passing than a new voting rights bill.

Is Black Cinema in the USA a part of Hollywood?
Stefan replied to richardmurray's topic in Culture, Race & Economy
There are independent movie studios everywhere. Hollywood is not the end all. Unfortunately, to get your film shown on as many screens as possible, a producer, director or investor may have to engage some concerns that are closely allied or even part of movie making and TV studio industries. Your theme premise is far too general. -
What is your favorite Science Fiction movie? And why? Do you believe in Aliens? Extraterrestrials? Extra sauce? Have you ever seen a UFO? Been aboard one? Did you have to pay? (If you got a butt probe, that means you paid). I have no further comment on that.

Yup. That's easy to see. But this is also a sponsored advertisement and I rarely click on those. And there is the problem. I avoid online ads as I try to avoid the unvaccinated. I am sure many others do as well. I don't know how the new Ebony business model will work. Ever since the Internet began destroying print only publications, it is proving difficult to generate sufficient revenue for many online publications unless they are part of a large corporation.

No one ever finishes learning. Some may consider themselves as master craftsmen, master book writers, master this or master that. If they do, they can try to sell themselves and create an income stream from teaching. But enslave someone?

I doubt any real child (under 12) is going to discuss with their parents or caregivers about their wishes to join the U.S. military. Children are mainly interested in playing their favorite video games, watching their most admired movies or videos and hanging out with their closest playmates. However, if you're talking about a teenager, I can understand the question. I am curious why you chose to use a promotional poster from a 1984 motion picture about an investigation into an Army's Sargent's murder in Louisiana during World War II.

The Left Is Eating Black America's Lunch By Dividing It From Within

@Cynique It does not matter that most Right Wingers think what or even some of the more unhinged in these forums believe. I deal in Truth and Fact. I had no choice as a Journalist and as an Editor. I also had to be correct when teaching. I am certain you do not lie about true facts to your children. You may soft-peddle some definitions and events to spare feelings and visceral reactions, but the underlying truth remains. For forty years, Critical Race Theory was never misunderstood until White racists discovered the term and realized this supposition could be used as an election wedge issue. And White racists and their lackeys among Conservative Blacks have used this term to their political and cultural benefit for more than a year. Critical Race Theory is a university law course for highly intelligent and motivated people. Not those who are lazy or cannot understand plain English. Look how long it took before White bigots found out that many Blacks employed the world "woke" as an adjective to describe a politically aware person? It took years for them to discover this. These days, to ignorant Whites and Conservative Blacks, being "woke" has become synonymous with being anti-White. It does not matter that their definition of "woke" is incorrect and decidedly wrong. It will not diminish or alter the meaning of "woke" among politically astute Black people. -
That's not going to change anything. Here's why: These NFL teams are privately owned companies and the Denver Broncos will still be, no matter what group purchases the club. And Black people, despite being loyal fans, simply cannot compete when it comes to money and social influence with other pressure groups. Or has anyone forgotten the complete failure to press the NFL to give Colin Kaepernick another starting QB position? Sometimes, social demands do not work. NFL teams mint money and their owners are looking carefully at demographics, media coverage and ad revenue. I do not believe any of those aggrieved over the lack of Black BFL coaches get it. If you mount a drawn out pressure campaign, this is going to be the likely result: 1) You are going to piss off many fans who ordinarily don't care what color their team's coach or manager is. As long as their team is successful at winning. But if you make this an unavoidable issue, you will force such ones to choose a side. Don't expect to win a lot of support. Rightly or wrongly, you'll be viewed just as you were during the Colin Kaepernick drama: As irritants taking attention away from the sport. 2) In this era of heightened and violent political discourse, you may actually create more social and news media hatred against innocent Black children, mothers and fathers who are not swept up in your pressure campaign. 3) If a Black coach or a manager is hired and then fails to win, they will probably be fired. That is a fact of life. You cannot order any profitable business to lose money to suit your personal tastes. This may not happen to Brian Flores, who landed as assistant coach's gig with the Pittsburgh Steelers. But often, when teams do fire a coach or a manager - sometimes all their assistants go as well. I just don't get all this needless angst. Not having a Black NFL coach isn't getting our people gunned down by the police, by gangbangers or racist Whites. It's not making our children undereducated by attending poorly funded public schools or costing us political representation in Congress. But our lack of Voting Rights does. And THAT is what we Blacks need to be focusing on. It's the same old silliness with many of us. We worry about the type of decoration on a cake instead of noticing we rarely get a slice.

Did you click on the Global Slavery Index link? And what makes you think human beings are any better than other life forms? In the Bible, Slavery was nothing close to Chattel Slavery practiced in the Western Hemisphere. But it was still Slavery. The thread question is: "Did the Bible Sanction Slavery?" And because there were so many laws regulating it, the answer is obviously yes. While this was due mostly due to Israelites becoming indebted to their brethren, the facts are that foreigners or war captives could also be designated as Slaves. Which is what is exactly what happened in parts of Africa. With all the movies, books and first hand historical accounts on the Holocaust, The Killing Fields, Bosnia and Rwanda, here we are in early 2022 and human beings have gleefully danced right back to the edge of a genocidal abyss. This is what may happen in Ukraine. We already know this occurred in Libya after the U.S. ousted Moammar Gaddafi. We are just a violent and war mongering people.

@Cynique, Sorry, but Right Wing racists view Critical Race Theory as a current threat which is why they have pilloried, screamed and lost their frigging minds over it for more than year. But most have no idea what CRT actually is. The same is true of most people on this forum. Even though I carefully laid out what Critical Race Theory actually is. And CRT definitely bothers White racists. Here's Fox News knucklehead Tucker Carlson with an admission that he has no idea what CRT is, even thought he's railed against it for more than year: Tucker Carlson: I have no idea what CRT is White rage over CRT has led to Texas schools yanking the speeches and written works of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., in other states, book bans and the dismissal of teachers THOUGHT to be teaching CRT. However, CRT is not taught in any public schools at all. No one can name a school or even a district in which CRT is taught to school children. Duke University's Law School's description of Course 504 - Critical Race Theory: "The course affords students an opportunity to think about the ways in which racism, sexism, classism, and heterosexism are inextricably interwoven as well as an opportunity to challenge critically our most basic assumptions about race, law, and justice." https://law.duke.edu/academics/course/504 CRT is as I said it is: An elective course at various university law schools. And it really upsets White people, mainly because just as Tucker Carlson, they haven't a clue as to what CRT actually is. -
Jimmy Carter is a decent man. He evolved and began accepting everyone as an equal. I've always admired him. Carter's biggest mistake after getting the hated Shah of Iran to leave Tehran was to allow this cruel ruler to enter the U.S. for cancer treatment. I don't think anyone had any idea of the extent of the Shah's crimes against the Iranian people. But everyone soon found out. The reason why celebrities are viewed as role models is because the news media pays so much attention to them.

The Almighty did not question Slavery. And throughout the Bible, Slavery was an accepted practice. Right up into the days of Jesus and his Apostles. There is no getting around it. Slavery is still practiced now in certain countries and by different armed groups, such as ISIS, Boko Harem and drug cartels and of course, China. There are about 140,000 people living in modern Slavery in the United Kingdom and about 400,000 are exploited in the U.S., according to the Global Slavery Index. Global Slavery Index

I have no idea what Daniellegfny's motivation is for continuing to post bullchit allegations. And personally, I don't care. And the nonsense posted by Nels and by Mzuri is simply mindboggling and best reserved for teenaged White racists who were raised in the backwoods with history books written for third graders. With all the information that is readily available, it is sad that people choose to stay ignorant and stalwart in refusing to accept the truth.

The Left Is Eating Black America's Lunch By Dividing It From Within

@Cynique I have no idea where these folks come from. But their ignorance and disdain for Black people seems insane. This is why I wasn't even sure they are Black. These nasty White racists are using CRT to erase real Black History Classes from schools. And I cannot believe some folks on this forum don't realize that CRT is an elective course at university law schools. No child could perform such classwork. But as usual, the loudest complaining mouths prove immune to research and truth. -
NPR: Rents and home prices are rising sharply The problem is not that thousands of tenants face eviction in New York City. It's that millions of renters across the country have seen their rents skyrocket due to avarice. And many tenants simply cannot afford to pay those higher rents. This means many tenants will find themselves without any funds left over for medicine, transportation to work and food. So, what are they supposed to feed themselves and their families - air? And this has little to do with Ukraine because Russia's invasion of has not yet begun. Even though Vladimir Putin has sent Russian troops into Ukrainian provinces where the majority of the populace favors rules by the Kremlin - that is not a military invasion. It's simply a pretext in hopes an incident erupts for which Putin can blame Ukraine. In the meantime, pump prices for gas and diesel fuel have risen. Multi-apartment building owners have used the coming invasion as an excuse to claim heating oil and gas prices have gone through the roof. Which is a laugh in states that experience cold weather. Because landlords in big cities in those states are known for traditionally refusing to give adequate heat in wintertime. And despite pocketing millions in federal funds for relief, landlords who claim they lost money during the pandemic are still finding ways to evict tenants who simply ran out of money because of lost jobs, slashed hours, illness and other personal emergencies. Don't believe me? Check out this story: https://abcnews.go.com/Business/wireStory/landlords-finding-ways-evict-rental-aid-82826554 Why is this happening? One word that unconscionable folks cherish above all others: GREED This is why for many renters, their chances of surviving the next few months with minimum damage to their psyche, health and finances is about the same for hundreds of thousands of citizens of Ukraine - slim.

Trump accounting firm disavows 10 years of financial statements
Stefan replied to Stefan's topic in Culture, Race & Economy
Trump may have a difficult primary fight against Florida Governor Ron DeSantis. The bottom line is the angriest Trump supporters are usually the most addle-brained and uninformed, preferring to insult and castigate rather than truly understanding what a petty, lying authoritarian he actually is. -
@Chevdove Thank you. In the early morning of Feb. 4, 1999, four White New York City undercover cops from the Street Crimes Unit encountered young West African immigrant Amadou Diallo outside of his Bronx home. They later claimed that Diallo was a rape suspect and when they approached, they thought he was a firing a gun at them. Which was nonsense. But Amadou didn’t understand what they were saying and trying to show his I.D., he simply pulled out his wallet. The four cops fired 41 shots, hitting Amadou 19 times as he stood in the doorway of his own home. The 23-year-old's body was riddled with bullets. He even had a bullet hole in the bottom of his foot. Amadou didn't have a gun. Just the wallet. Like everyone else in New York City, I was furious. So, I went to a rally in memory of Amadou outside the U.N. building and was standing in a huge multi-racial crowd on First Avenue in Manhattan. Rev. Al Sharpton was preparing to speak and I turned to a tall Jewish father next to me who was balancing his young son atop his shoulders and thanked him for coming. He looked at me with big smile and told me: "I had to be here for Amadou. Because I know this will never work as a protest if it's just Black people." We bumped fists. After Rev. Sharpton spoke, he asked us not to march. But the crowd was so energized and angry, we did. All the way down to City Hall, chanting "Police Training 101. It's a wallet - not a gun!" My nieces called me later that night to tell they saw me on TV. In the aftermath of Amadou's death, the Street Crime Unit was disbanded. Facing an upsurge in street crime and shootings, Eric Adams, the new Mayor of NYC and a former police captain, is about to reconstitute the Street Crime Unit. Here are additional images to prove Black people are not alone in these police brutality protests.
