January 2020 marked the 10th year of this version of the AALBC discussion forums. in January 2010 I had to make two substantial changes to the discussion forums; I had to implement different software. The software I was previously using (Discus) made it impossible for me to deal with the spam posts the site was getting. Spammers could programmatically hit the site with 100 posts and I'd have to find each one manually, and delete them one by one. This software (Invision Community) is infinitely better dealing with spam. Invision is also fee based while Discus was free. I had to migrate from ThumersCorner.com to AALBC.com/tc. Google banned the entire t…

Good morning readers and writers, I have a terrible bellyache this morning. I had one of my books reviewed by Kirkus, and received my review today. The problem was not that I received a bad review, the reviewer stated it was, "A richly textured, affecting tale of a family’s resilience in the face of injustice." My issue is that she referred to a historical fiction book about slavery and the aftermath in one family as a soap opera. In my mind, the black experience is not a Life Time movie and can never be described as a "soap opera." I don't have the words to express my feelings, insulted doesn't quite hit it. I would love to have some black readers review my book. It's ti…

I learned from a local journalist and author Cheryl Wills, of New York City's NY1 that Rosa Guy passed recently. I don't know the exact date, but I believe it was within the past week. Rosa was a Harlem based author, and literary activist. Her first book was published in the mid 60's (I believe), she co-founded the Harlem Writer's Guild. She was also a member of a Black nationalist literary organization, On Guard for Freedom. She is definitely, as I would say, "An Author You Should Know". Cheryl's TV station did a segment on Rosa Guy but I missed it. I've been searching the net for over 24 hours and I have yet to see a mention of Rosa's passing. If I have not …

Based on the books your site has selected and the reaction of my current ARC reviewers, I am confident that you and your subscribers will find By The Next Pause a page-turner. I would love to send you a copy for you to review. Please advise on how I can make that possible. In the meantime, below is a short blurb about my novel. Ian Randle Publishers, one of Jamaica's great publishing houses bringing great book from the Caribbean to the world! I was invited to attend the Kingston Book Festival and had the pleasure of meeting a wide variety of accomplished publishing professionals and talented writers. After doing events like this it becomes even clearer to me that there should be no barriers. We have opportunities globally. Availing ourselves of these opportunities will be crucial to our survival. I spoke with Ian for a bit. He is a really cool dude, very laid back, unpretentious (like everyone else), and has hundreds of books in print.

CHAPTER TWO THE LEARNING CURVE Sometimes, the real key is not learning what to learn, but learning what not to learn! Wise people have always known this and it is oftentimes the most powerful aspect of an education. Without a doubt, education is within the grasp of everyone, but without discipline and insight you may end up an educated fool or worse. In the case of the black women in America, there has been long periods of time when she has had to unlearn what she had learned and the most damning lesson she has had to unlearn was that she was not beautiful. Attempting to live up to the Euro-centric concept of beauty has tended to squeeze so much valuabl…

I read this review and immediately thought of @Pioneer1 "Professor Banks concentrates his book on interviews with middle class black women, who he says are the most likely to be unwed of any group in the country..." "Feminist leader Gloria Steinem knew just how to piss off and intimidate white men in power when she showed up in Newsweek, at the start of the Women’s Liberation Movement, with her “boyfriend,” the very dark, handsome, well-sculpted, black Olympic star Rafer Johnson."

The book, "The House that God Built" is the first in a multi-volume series entitled: "Strong Foundations for Strong Families". This series is a culmination of insights and lessons learned in over 30 years of marriage and the product of decades of prayerful and intense bible study, research and “field experience” in working with couples and singles. The books in this series are truly a labor of love. This book was written primarily for those who love marriage and family as God originally designed them, understand the enormous blessings that healthy families have always bestowed upon churches and societies and feel that these are institutions worth fighting for. …

THE OTHER END OF THE STICK The social revolution for the control of the black image had a profound impact on the sistas as well. Oppression was not solely a franchise for the black male because harnessed to his very existence was the black woman. After 1865, once she was no longer needed as a breeder of slaves, she posed a definite threat. By the start of the 19th century, the black woman was no longer viewed as a “transitional” figure in the dark menace. She was the producer of it. And as the creator of this scourge, what to do about her only became a matter of timing. All things considered, white America exercised uncommon restraint regarding the black w…
