Greetings. The book ("Dear Dad") by Ky-Mani Marley is not a new one, but I didn't even know that Kymani had a book out until last Friday. I just happened to see it in the bookstore and I picked it up. Have any of you read this? In my opinion, it's the kind of book that can make you laugh, cry, think, and take notes for the purpose of doing your part to bring about a brighter tomorrow.

The world wide web really is controlled by big web sites. Perhaps I should just give up complaining about everything we have all lost as a result of the corporate take over of the internet and do something else -- for real. Twitter "gave" me $100 of "free" advertising. It was one of those deals where you give them a credit card number and they make money because they know you will end up not cancelling your campaign when the $100 is used up. Well in a few days I used up $340 in extra charges. I fought the charges but PayPal, unlike AMEX, is useless against another corporation. Need ess to say I will never ever use Twitter for advertising. I would ditch P…

  4. Het @Delano, I discovered this book, A Study of Numbers: A Guide to the Constant Creation of the Universe by R. A. Schwaller de Lubicz, recently and was wondering what you thought about it, based upon the description and perhaps the youtube video. I was in Oakland, CA on Friday and I visited the iconic Marcus Bookstore. One of the coowners turned me onto another book by the same authors, which she said would blow my mind. I discovered the book above while researching R. A. Schwaller de Lubicz. The book she recommended to me was The Temple of Man,

How many of you knew the story about those brilliant African-American women working at NASA BEFORE seeing the movie “Hidden Figures”? Probably not most. The role ofAfrican-Americans has often been downplayed, overlooked, ignored. My co-author, the late Edna Gail Bush, and I sought to right the wrong by shining a light on African-American residents of Edgefield County, SC. “Until lions become their own historians, every story will glorify the hunter.” The book is available on Amazon as e-book, paperback & hardcover. Originally, I wanted to create a movie, comicbook, or videogame, though limited resources prevented that from happening. Anyway, the story is about a Black Vigilante who takes matters into his own hands and goes to war against Law Enforcement in America. I wanted it to be hard and edgy as well, I'm not sure of such subject matter would be allowed on this forum considering how insensitive it might be…

  27. Tarkisha's book is indeed the #1 bestselling book on AALBC making the September/October - 2018 list. What is striking, to me about this video, produced by the author, is that she, (1) recognizes the accomplishment of making AALBC's bestsellers list and (2) tells readers that they can buy her book from AALBC. An author doing both — even an AALBC bestselling author — unsolicited is not common (sad but true). I'm confident this is a trend that will continue as more authors, especially the indie authors expand their promotional efforts beyond social media — it is win-win. Indie authors need booksellers who promote and sell their work and booksellers…

The movie, "The Help", is opening this week-end, and it being an example of a white woman telling a black one's story, makes it the object of controversy. I have mixed emotions about this best-selling book, whose screen version has been much anticipated. I read it when it first came out and posted a mini review of it here. Then, as now, a lot of its story line didn't ring true to me because the author often sacrificed credibility for the sake of providing comic relief. And at the book's end, several issued remained unresolved. Other critics, many of whom are black female writers, say the approach to the book was patronizing, and that the treatment of the charact…
