  5. Years ago, when this first came out, I read this. Rarely one to read biographies (they're so self-serving), this was during the height of the Chapelle sketches and he was Eddie Murphy's brother, so I gave it a shot. And I'm glad I did. I instantly became a Charlie Murphy fan for his down to earth-ness and awareness of how blessed he was to achieve his dream. Dude was real. An excerpt: After bombing in St. Louis and Cleveland, we rolled up to our next show at Constitution Hall in Washington, D.C. By that time, all sorts of crazy, negative thoughts were swirling inside my mind. This was the very same venue where Eddie had performed his breakout stand-up t…

This is cute and humorous video performed by La Shea Delaney (@lashea_delaney) & Annabelle Quezada (@annabelleqv) I discovered it trolling for bloggers for Huria Search. This video was shot in NYC, and makes the city looks like a really nice place. The Strand bookstore pictured in the video's preview image is a great independent bookstore. One of the last videos I shot was in the Strand Bookstore. This easily the largest indie store I've ever seen, perhaps the largest book store I've ever been in. They claim to have 18 miles of books!

In an earlier post I mention there are no Black owned bookstores in Harlem. Technically that is true. But there are a couple of Black owned bookstores in Manhattan. Both can be found in my database of Black-owned Bookstores One of these stores is Sister's Uptown Bookstore which is run by Janifer P. Wilson. Her store is in Washington Height which, is the community just north of Harlem. Some people consider it part of Harlem. I believe they would be in the minority. Janifer, shown in the video below, recounts what drives booksellers who focus on celebrating our culture through books (including myself). There is another store, which appears to be Black owned, run b…

I know, I know, I I'm out the loop because I don't consumer social media. Still I was surprised I had not heard about this before reading about it in the newspaper. You'd think Black book sellers would be the first to know about these books, but sadly I learn about they along with everyone else... The book retails for $300. That is, objectively, a lot of money. I wish I knew how many were produced and how many will sell. The economics of this just bewilder me. Know I've seem some BAB in my day. I remember how happy I was to get a copy…

There have been quite a few articles lately that discuss the generational trauma and disconnect between black mothers and daughters. As a survivor of child abuse, when I speak to other survivors, every woman in the room discusses how toxic their mother was. It took some time, but I finally gained perspective about my mom and the stories I've been told. Hopefully, this book will help others begin to heal. The genre will be inspirational fiction and span from slavery to the current generation; I may include a future generation as well. I've been outlining i…

  21. As a bookseller I get pitches for new books several times a day — which is great, because it tells me sometime positive about the author: If they have the resources to invest in promoting their book, they've probably also invested the resources into producing a decent book. Of course this is not always the case, but I've found this to be true more often than not. One thing that has always irked me is when authors/publicists/publishers tell readers to buy book their from Amazon. In the old days they would say sometime along the lines of, "Available Wherever Books are Sold." Those promoting books were sensitive to the fact that explicitly promotin…

If anyone out there has access to a Literary directory with our people accepting manuscripts, please let me know. I truly believe that my work is exceptional, but thus far, I cannot find any agency to represent my work in the white majority. Thanks for your time in this matter.
