  7. A funny thing happened on the way to the revolution. Somebody forgot to tell us that, in our rush out the door to join in the riches of the larger society as a result of desegregation, we might want to preserve at least some to the things that made us a self-sustaining community, just in case. Well, with the current high unemployment rates among African-Americans, higher than the nation as a whole, that "just in case" moment may be here. The one thing we may have forgotten to do "just in case"? Mind our own businesses! It’s no surprise that, as times get tough, people tend to look out for their own. Yes, that means a lot of cronyism, a little bit o…

i have been following the coverage of Trump's controversial nominee for the Supreme Court. Observing the dramatic "he-said-she-said" testimonies of the woman accusing Trump's choice of sexual assault, and the denial of these charges by the accused, has been not only riveting but rather depressing. America is bordering on shambles. Dr. Christine Ford alleges that 30+ years ago, Brett Kavanaugh and his friend, Mark Judge, accosted her at a high school house party. She relates how a drunk Kavanaugh pulled her inside a bedroom where he pinned her down, tried to undress her, and nearly smothered her before she was able to get away and lock herself in a bathroo…

  9. Well, Black people got a huge basket of good news on Thursday, June 8. Because the U.S. Supreme Court did not shatter what’s left of the 1965 Voting Rights Act. Instead, by a 5-4 margin, a coalition of conservative and liberal justices reaffirmed the court's 1986 precedent interpreting how legislative districts must be drawn under the landmark voting rights act, as amended in 1982. After years of court defeats and being battered backwards by state after state when it comes to voting rights, the Supreme Court did something so surprising, even that dreaded oaf Clarence Thomas filed a 50-page complaint-objection. The court said that in Alabama, a state where there …

  10. Well, it looks as if Joe Biden and Kamala Harris have defeated would-be dictator Donald Trump yet again. The U.S. Supreme Court on Friday, Dec. 12, swatted aside the Trump campaign’s desperate attempt from the Texas Attorney General to invalidate the 2020 election. In effect, legal experts concluded that Justices determined Texas has no business trying to dictate how other states conduct their elections. According to the NBCnews Website: “Justices Clarence Thomas and Samuel Alito said the court had no authority to refuse a case filed on its original docket, where one state files to sue another. But they said they would not have granted Texas any other relief and exp…

The FBI's Vendetta Against Martin Luther King, Jr. excerpted from the book The Lawless State The crimes of the U.S. Intelligence Agencies by Morton Halperin, Jerry Berman, Robert Borosage, Christine Marwick Penguin Books, 1976 p63 For the FBI, an organization seeking to register blacks in the South was clearly suspicious. Until 1962, the bureau would monitor King and SCLC under the "racial matters" category, which required agents to collect "all pertinent information" about the "proposed or actual activities of individuals and organizations in the racial field." It is a wonder people like Mitch McConnell, without basic understanding of a simlle issue can rise to power. Just another inducation of just how shitty America's political process is.

Shaun is spot on with this observation. It's been known for decades that the images of Jesus and even God being depicted as a Caucasian man has being one of the most effective tools of racism as it burns the idea of Caucasians being divine and god-like into the subconscious of many people of color who grow up around those images. However, I suspect that if people DO start smashing and knocking down those images of Caucasians that have been LABELED as "Jesus".....some of the protesters may end up making more enemies than they expected. Infact, I suspect many of the female protesters of color will be adamantly against this campaign.

I’ve always been fascinated with the dynamics of language. A tool that enables communication, language can frequently be inadequate. But it can also be powerful. As components of language, certain words can trigger rage and indignation at the mere sound of them. The most obvious example of this is the epithet “nigger“. A simple 2-syllable utterance that stands for so much. Just the enunciation of this one word is powerful enough to incite mayhem when it comes out of the mouth of a white person in the presence of black person. A black person can seethe with suspicions about racial prejudice but once the n-bomb is dropped, anger and the threat of violence immediately erupt…

  48. Technology and Falling Literacy Rates Are Writing an End to Black-Owned Bookstores by Frederick H. Lowe The number of African-American-owned bookstores has dropped significantly since the late 1970s and 1980s due to a variety of factors, including corporate control of the Internet, waning literacy and fiscal mismanagement. In the 1970s and 1980s, more than 1,000 black-owned bookstores were in business in the United States. Now only slightly more than 100, possibly 116 to 117, if that many, remain open, according to Troy Johnson, founder of the African American Literature Book Club (AALBC.com), which is based in New York.
