On March 2nd 1997, I registered the domain AALBC.com. I had already been working on the website for the previous 5 months, and could never have imagined that I would still be working on it over 18 years later. Over the years I’ve worked a variety of jobs in a bunch of locations, and nothing has ever motivated me more than the work I put into AALBC.com. I work hard on the website and have sacrificed a great deal to keep it going, but it never felt like work, and the sacrifices pale in comparison with what I receive in return. AALBC.com can’t survive in a vacuum. It only has value when others see value in it. So I must say, “THANK YOU” to all the read…

I've recently finished a book entitled Blue Mafia about two federal investigations of police misconduct in which the Department of Justice (DOJ) sued local police for a pattern and practice of police misconduct. Ohio leads the country, relative to its population, with 7 DOJ investigations of police misconduct. NY state ties Ohio and California has one more, 8, but nowhere has the DOJ been more bitterly resisted than Ohio. Steubenville police had a reputation for roughness long before the DOJ heard about them. There were 50 civil rights lawsuits over the last thirty years alleging false arrest, assault, planted evidence, menacing, harassment, failure to discipline, failure…

Dear Editors, I’m an international revolutionary who was nominated for the 2019 Nobel Peace Prize for my strategic role in Ethiopia’s recent democracy revolution. My debut literary novel, Money, Blood and Conscience, is inspired by my Ethiopian experiences. It combines fiction with investigative journalism and includes a political call to action for the reader. The story’s about an idealistic Hollywood producer who stages a global rock concert for Ethiopian famine victims and is blackmailed into defending a brutal dictator. It explores the dilemma confronted by humanitarian organizations forced to deal with authoritarian regimes and symbolizes the larger q…

Greetings everyone & Happy Sunday, I am contacting you today with hopes of having my book reviewed. I am the self publishing author of Childhood on Fire: My Journey from the Hell of Baltimore to High Water. My book is a true story based on the events that happened in my life, starting with childhood hardships. I went from being separated from my mother and siblings as a young child, to being abandoned, to later being place in foster care, to be taken to a different state, with unfamiliar family and friends, and then subjected to further wrenching disillusionment and abuse. I am also a survivor of sexual assault and a victim of the self-inflicted, suppurati…

I'm a publicist working with Arisa White, author of Who's Your Daddy, a lyrical, genre-bending coming-of-age tale featuring a queer, Black, Guyanese American woman who, while seeking to define her own place in the world, negotiates an estranged relationship with her father. Early praise: "This beautifully, honestly conceived genius of a book shook me to the core.” —Dara Wier "What she gives us are archives, allegories, and wholly new songs.” —Terrance Hayes “In these crisply narrative poems, which unreel like heart-wrenching fragments of film, Arisa White not only names that gaping chasm between father and daughter, but grace…

Last night I saw a DVD of Lawrence Olivier playing Othello. Sir Larry was a howler. He sported some makeup that photographed gray for some reason. His Fro looked like a dead muskrat. Part of the time he chewed the scenery like he was on angel dust, the other time, he declaimed in the high manner of Noble Johnson playing one of them chiefs in a Tarzan movie, Mantan Moreland, or a cook at a rib joint in Harlem back in the 30's. The best actor in there was Derek Jacobi as Cassio--his costars needed an Oscar for keeping a straight face while Larry was freaking out. I know the play was written by William "Thou canst get no whiter than he" Shakespeare. …

I wrote Grandma's Community Center to enlighten children and adults about struggles in a single parent home. I also wanted to enlighten readers on the importance of community center in low income areas. The book also touch on bullying and give the readers a history lesson to stop bullying. Grandma's Community Center is a children fiction book but the lessons in the book in non-fiction. The book ISBN 1450227074. I have so many stories I want to tell and I pray this book is written well enough to get a Literary Agent.

My new historical novel, Something in Madness, takes readers to 1865 Mississippi, when newly freed Blacks struggled to begin their lives in a South still run by unregenerate Confederates. The novel was just released by TouchPoint Press and is available from [link to amazon removed], Barnes & Noble and other outlets. Terry Baker Mulligan, author of Sugar Hill and Afterlife in Harlem, called Something in Madness: “...ultimately a tale of hope and determination against seemingly insurmountable odds. It is also a timely tale for these troubled times in our divided nation.” In the story: Abolitionist Durksen Hurst and two black friends return home …

Good2go Publishing – Over 1 Million Books Sold! The publisher is a long time supporter of AALBC.com. Since I've started the website's upgrade and am now able to quickly incorporate large amounts, of information here. The depth of Ray Brown's accomplishments came into light, and I learned he has sold over million copies of his books, across 57 titles. Do I did not ask for invoices from distributors, or otherwise vet the statement, but I believe him, which would seem reasonable given the tendency of indie publishers to inflate sales figures over time, but given his consistency of performance over time in the market place I believe the stat. Well, I'm back in NYC The bus from the airport drops me off on 125th in Harlem (Spanish Harlem technically) and I start to walk home and this Brother tries to sell me a book. Initially, I say, "nah man," but I'm a soft touch for Brothers like this. I don't know him from boo, but he is familiar I grew up with cats like him. So I go into AALBC-mode. I buy a book, of course, we bargain--I did say I took the bus from the airport right? I shot the video below, with my cell phone. I'm using at Samsung Galaxy 5 a hand-me-down from my daughter. I'm still amazed what you can do with this 3-year-old cell phone. I literally meet Samson Dempsey two hours before writing this…

I'm in the final throes of redesigning this website. The last major task is changing the look and feel of the website. You may have noticed that about 18 months ago I changed the design of the site, introducing the orange background and optimizing the site for mobile. But feedback from my students and others have given me reason to make additional modifications--including a major overhaul of the homepage and major section main pages, books, authors, reviews, etc. At any rate, I've been playing around with different color schemes and designs. I've changed my Blog to reflect an option I'm considering. Please visit my Blog and let me know what you think of th…

Jeff Kinney is a #1 New York Times bestselling author and six-time Nickelodeon Kids’ Choice Award winner for Favorite Book. The 11th book in the series, Diary of a Wimpy Kid: Double Down, will release on November 1, 2016. He lives with his wife and two sons in Plainville, Massachusetts, where he owns a general interest bookstore, An Unlikely Story, which he describes in the video below. In the video, Jeff expresses surprise that more writers don't open bookstores. I could not help but think about how nice it must be nice to be so wealthy that you can wonder about something like that and not have a clue about the answer... Hello All, I just finished Walter Mosley's new novel, Known To Evil, the second book in the Lenoid McGill mystery series. I loved it! I know in an earlier thread Crystal wasn't too pleased with it and I'm feeling her on that. I came to the same conclusion about being in mourning from the ending of Mosley's Easy Rawlins series. I did not realize that I was in mourning until I was 3/4 through with The Long Fall. I did not realize how MAD I was at Mosley for that. I know that I did not read any of his books after the last Easy book. What's that old saying about never missing the water til the well runs dry. I wasn't fully conscious that I felt so strongly for th…
