I simply can not obtain copies of Dr. Frances Cress Welsing's book, The ISIS Papers: The Keys to the Colors. The only place I can buy it is on amazon. Yes, amazon wins again. I know I sound like a broken record, but Amazon owns the Black Book ecosystem -- end of story. We have freely given it to them. Frankly, it is nauseating. We have to wrest back control of our books.

I am so happy and pleased and mesmerized to learn that NY TIMES Bestselling author, Mary Monroe GOD DON'T LIKE UGLY has endorsed my new book RUTHLESS PAMELA JEAN with two five star reviews as follows: MARY'S GOODREADS REVIEW of RUTHLESS PAMELA JEAN I knew I was going to enjoy this book. Pamela had every right to be angry at times and I was glad she almost killed the two girls in the tunnel incident. Her references to Iceberg Slim made me even more interested in this book because I was a huge fan of his books back in the day.I believe Pamela and Jonah could have had a great future together if things had worked out differently for Jonah. I was glad s…

The Great Norman Spinrad African SF Contretemps The Fatal Paragraph So, for now at least, and in the apparent absence of a significant body of science fiction written by born and bred Africans, this Caucasian American (Mike Resnick) is probably the closest thing there is or has been to an African science fiction writer, with the exception of Octavia Butler. Who did write the same sort of thing, and did it well, and was Black to boot, but I use that politically incorrect word rather than “African American” because aside from her genetic heritage she was no more African than Mike Resnick. For most of my life, I was the guy most wannabe thugs wished they could be. Officially declared a "menace to society", I was sentenced to 30 years in federal prison for my role as mastermind of a series of daring bank robberies in the 70s. Two involved shootouts. One with the police. The other with a citizen in a bank parking lot where I narrowly missed being killed. While confined, I took part in an even more daring prison escape. Despite this seeming penchant for violence, I consoled myself with the notion that I was merely a poet trapped in a gangsta's body and oddly enough, this wasn't far from the truth as I had evolved from a family of teachers, four of whom…

Kam interviewed Alice Walker last week. I think this is one of his more interesting interviews. I was rather struck by Alice's response to his question about her estrangement with her daughter. Her answer caught me, as a father of two girls as somewhat too accepting, maybe a tad bit cold. But hey if you get anything from the interview it is that Alice does and say what she wants. Of course I was with her on her opinion of Obama, not so much as an personal thing against Obama, but just the realization that, as Alice puts it, "I think I’ve actually returned to a kind of realism about how the world works. That’s helpful. Because in a way, no matter who’s in…

Sometimes lines from books just strike you. I'm been posting interesting lines from books (well this is only my second time doing it. Continuing to tweak what I share on social media. This quote is from the true story, Blood Done Sign My Name by Timothy B. Tyson I shared an interesting video on the book's page, of Tyson giving a talk about racism in the south. He is a historian and provides an interesting perspective, but he is literally preaching to the choir. The folks who need to hear his message I'm sure are not listening. Perhaps use of the word "nigger" in my post will attract the attention of people who could most benefit from his words.

Hello, I am a white high school English teacher. I read out loud to my freshmen a lot. If I am reading an author like Langston Hughes or Lorraine Hansberry, and the author has a character speaking in dialect, is it okay for me as a white person to voice that dialect? In Hughes's "Thank You, M'am," I have always voiced the dialect that Langston wrote for his caring, strong Mrs. Jones. My students (mostly white, with a few Hispanic students and one or two black students) have always responded positively and with interest when I read the story aloud, but now I'm not sure a white teacher should "voice" a Black character? I have found recordings online…

A friend tried to buy 3 of my books “She Took Justice: The Black Woman, Law, and Power” on am*zon and an automatic restriction popped up saying purchases exceed limit and... “This seller has a limit of one per customer.” But, get this, am*zon is the seller! Is it just Black books? I’ve asked the Authors Guild to look into it. It seems they should want to sell books. But this limit is real and affects book sales and ranking. Has anyone else had this issue with am*zon?

I am part of a writing community outside AALBC but a recent challenge made me consider using it to push a story in AALBC. This is the setting SETTING Long after the fall of the Constellamperor, the last ruler of the whole world, who legend says began the Tactile Virus plague. The planet is broken up into two things. Second , The Urban Commands, self isolating city states, born from a heritage of surviving the ever mutating virus with walls plus fire plus suits. They are self sufficient in purpose, socialist in racial ranking , militaristic in communal structure, merit based in human relationship. Consummation has a space, Leaders have a space, everywhere…

Well, here's a link to the serialized book I've been babbling about for the past few days. The first chapter awaits. They say one picture is worth a thousand words but after taking a look at the cover, you might want to get the juicy details about whether blondes really do have more fun - or do they pale in comparison to a golden girl primed to cure a brotha of jungle fever... http://www.achapteramonth.com/

This is an email I got from a visitor to AALBC.com. Normally I can answer these questions, even if I've not read the book, just by querying the website. However in this case I think i'll need to be familiar with the book. Does anyone what book this might be? Here is the message: "I frequently visit your site when seeking new books to read. Last month I went on the site and found a book that I was very interested in reading. Unfortunately, I did not write down the title and have not been able to identify it. While updating my Book Fair Events Calendar, I was surprised to discover several book festivals have ended The Blue Ridge Bookfest, called it quits after 8 years provided three main reasons for ceasing their book festival: Attendance has not lived up to expectations. The public seems less interested in meeting authors than in the early years. Internet, e-books and audio books have grown strong. Donor and sponsor funding have declined while the expense of bringing in authors has increased. The financial gap grew each year. The event did not charge admission. Volunteers have not come forward in sufficient numbers. The Buffalo Small Press Book Fair…

Akashic Books "Reverse-Gentrification of the Literary World" That is Akashic Books slogan and they are serious. Akashic has published a number of Black authors including authors I consider part of the AALBC.com's family including Elizabeth Nunez, Bernice McFadden, Persia Walker and even the irrascible, incorrible Kola Boof. Albert “Prodigy” Johnson (November 2, 1974 – June 20, 2017) partners with Akashic Books to create the Infamous Books Imprint. Their first release, in July of 2013, was the novella H.N.I.C., a story of loyalty, vengeance, and greed which was also written by Johnson. Prodigy first book was the critically acclaimed autobiography My Infamous Life which was published in 2011. Infamous also published the works of JaQuavis Coleman, Mazaradi Fox, Miasha, Shannon Holmes, and others I meet "The Infamous Don P" in this context. He was a very chill, down to earth Brother. The #1 African American male erotica writer returns with part 2 of his highly acclaimed tale of the professional sexual male superstar, Nolan. In this installment, Nolan shows us his vulnerable side, and learns some life-long lessons in the process. I read this quote in an article I just finished reading, Black-Owned Bookstores: Anchors of the Black Power Movement, by Joshua Clark Davis (January 28, 2017). This quote, and others like it in the article, struck me because the sentiment expressed is the ONLY way these stores were created and endured. If I, for example, were only concerned about making money, I would have wrapped up AALBC.com a long time ago. The tough part about all of this is that we operate in a climate where increasing one's level of consciousness. Is very low on the list of things to do. Success is measured by how much money you amass, how you amass it is largely irrelevant. Exhibit #1: Pres…
