In this video I talk about the AALBC.com website, that I started in 1997. I'm attempting to describe some of the site's features to someone completely unfamiliar with it, and hopefully help folks already familiar, with the site, appreciate the scope of the website's offerings. I wanted to do this in less than 5 minutes, but that is really hard for me to do without completely leaving things out. Still, in this video, I've left a lot out and it runs over 12 minutes. 12 minutes is way too long in today's sound byte world, but I figured people really interested will watch the whole thing. I'll also monitor the video stats and adjust the video accordingly. I'm o…

OK, Facebook got me today. Every time I log in to Facebook to reply to responses to my posts, I see photos posted from several years ago; from a time when I actively shared personal shots on the platform, appear at the top of my wall. The two images below were there this morning: Both shots were taken in a brownstone (a large townhouse, attached on both sides) I owned in Harlem for about 10 years. During that time I hosted a number of events. I held film screenings in my backyard, a reading series called the Brownstone Series, and for over a year I hosted a photography exhibit. The image on the left is me giving a tour of the photo exhibit of Black write…

Hi all. I am a new author who writes fiction novels with Christian undertones. Don't let the Christian part fool you though. These books have some hot scenes. This was purposely done because often Christian lit does not address real issues. They tip toe around social topics such as insecurity, mental illness, racism, mass incarceration, prejudice, drug abuse, rape, love, spousal abuse, and LGBTQ rights. I wanted to relate Biblical teachings to real raw modern life. Please check out my two novels: Cute for a Black Girl 200 Letters

Will new life, love and laughter help her to find her way, or will death, deceit, and disloyalty overcome her. Can she trust those close to her? Can they trust her? It's often said that, “Whatever doesn't kill us only makes us stronger.” This may be true individually, but is this true in relationships? Does “no matter what” really mean just that?

White imperialist Thomas McCargo and the Johnson and Eperson Company were transporting 135 enslaved Afrikans from Virginia to New Orleans aboard the Creole in November 1841. One of the ancestors onboard was Madison Washington. He escaped imperial slavery and fled to Canada a year earlier. But Washington returned to Virginia in search of his wife. He was re-captured, placed on the Creole, and was on his way to perpetual slavery. Brother Washington’s fighting spirit wasn’t having it. Washington led 18 other …

"Pioneer, once the human genome was sequenced it became plain to everyone that there is only one race of people on planet earth. Race is indeed, an arbitrary social construct. In fact I wish our government would get out of the business of using it." I believe that humans are all of the same SPECIES, but definately of different races/breeds. I'm working more closely with authors and publishers across the African Diaspora and Africa. Over the years I've discovered restricting the books I cover and the audience I attempt to reach to American is unnecessarily limiting. In fact, it is narrow-minded. Here are 25 female African writers you should read. Some have realized great fame and wealth in the Unites States. Others are relatively unknown in America but are very successful in their respective countries. These writers come from different African nations and write across genres. Who won't go wrong reading any of their books. Actually, since I add ever book on this site by hand, that should go without…
