  1. Guest Anne C. Bailey

Here is a summary of the book and a link to Amazon. https://www.amazon.com/Weeping-Time-Largest-Auction-American/dp/1316643484/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1497538883&sr=8-1&keywords=The+Weeping+TIme In 1859, at the largest recorded slave auction in American history, over 400 men, women, and children were sold by the Butler Plantation estates. This book is one of the first to analyze the operation of this auction and trace the lives of slaves before, during, and after their sale. Immersing herself in the personal papers of the Butlers, accounts from journalists that witnessed the auction, genealogical records, and oral histories, Anne C. Bailey weaves toge…

Author: Steven C. Thedford Book: Title: Kwansabas & Other Poetmes ISBN: 978-0975973059 Publication Date: January 17, 2021 Request: I am interested in a book review. The Kwansaba is an African American verse form of praise created in 1995 by Eugene B. Redmond, East St. Louis Poet Laureate and professor of English at Southern Illinois-East St. Louis. The poems honor Kwanzaa, a celebration of family and African American culture, and praise writers such as Richard Wright and Sonia Sanchez. The poetic style of the Kwansaba utilizes the number seven, the numeric foundation of Kwanzaa. Thus, a Kwansaba is a heptastich, a poem of sev…

  12. Earlier this year we killed a project we worked on for over two years called the Power List. It was an attempt to fill in the void left when Essence Magazine abandoned their bestsellers list almost a decade ago. Unfortunately, the Power List was never embraced enough to make it worth the effort to continue producing. After I started the AALBC.com website upgrade, allocating resources to maintaining the Power List, was impossible to justify. Especially when you consider that I'm expanding AALBC.com's Bestsellers list The really interesting thing is that people still cite the Essence's list even though the list has been defunct for years. I received a galley …

  18. On March 2nd 1997, I registered the domain AALBC.com. I had already been working on the website for the previous 5 months, and could never have imagined that I would still be working on it over 18 years later. Over the years I’ve worked a variety of jobs in a bunch of locations, and nothing has ever motivated me more than the work I put into AALBC.com. I work hard on the website and have sacrificed a great deal to keep it going, but it never felt like work, and the sacrifices pale in comparison with what I receive in return. AALBC.com can’t survive in a vacuum. It only has value when others see value in it. So I must say, “THANK YOU” to all the read…

One NOVEMBER 1942 It was one thing to be cold, but quite another to be freezing. Not long ago, Paul Madsen, had been warm and safe. At home. Now he was in New York where his mind raced to find a way to rouse up some inner warmth. With nearly everything else having failed, he imagined himself back at home in England and for a while the charade worked. He forgot about how cold and miserable he actually felt, but within a few seconds a harsh wind soured him on the game he was playing. Yet the blistering cold was not the only difficulty Madsen faced. He was dying, literally falling apart internally at what one doctor had said was a…

Will new life, love and laughter help her to find her way, or will death, deceit, and disloyalty overcome her. Can she trust those close to her? Can they trust her? It's often said that, “Whatever doesn't kill us only makes us stronger.” This may be true individually, but is this true in relationships? Does “no matter what” really mean just that?

It struck me because the question was a popular one here so I figured I kick it off here :-) My little sticky shows the book I last read, which was Jaron Lanier's Who Owns the Future. Honestly, the last book I actually finished was H.N.I.C. by Prodigy, but I did not feel like mentioning it. The book was fine, but not really suited for me. I imagine a teenager would enjoy it. I would certainly recommended it to a high school student it is a very quick read.

The world wide web really is controlled by big web sites. Perhaps I should just give up complaining about everything we have all lost as a result of the corporate take over of the internet and do something else -- for real. Twitter "gave" me $100 of "free" advertising. It was one of those deals where you give them a credit card number and they make money because they know you will end up not cancelling your campaign when the $100 is used up. Well in a few days I used up $340 in extra charges. I fought the charges but PayPal, unlike AMEX, is useless against another corporation. Need ess to say I will never ever use Twitter for advertising. I would ditch P…
