This month the EVO Universe picked up two five Star reviews for their current novels Genesis (The First Series Book 3) and Fred and Mary. Check out what was said: Reviewed by Romuald Dzemo for Readers' Favorite Genesis by Kipjo Ewers is the third entry in The First Series and the first I am reading from this author. It is an absorbing and surprising narrative, enriched by strong elements of science fiction and political intrigue, and driven by a phenomenal conflict that culminates in the ultimate fight between good and evil. Sophia is a woman with unusual skills, and with the changes that have happened after the uprising, she is po…

Just finished this book. I expected it to bash those in the Civil Rights Movement who identified with "non violence". I myself am not a "non violent" and this book changed my perception of the "two" strategies. I originally thought "non violence" was weak. But now see it can be an effective tool that must be accompanied with people willing to defend. The author (Charles Cobb) did an amazing job of showing how the two worked hand in hand. Often, when direct physicality wasn't an option, we resorted to other, more creative ways to fight against the system. Work stoppages, slow downs and most notably, running away. There are many anecdotes of the self defense black Americans…

I first met Dante, the author of the book below, over a decade ago at the time he was a wonder kid, a young entrepreneur who'd carved out several successful niches on the Black World Wide Web. He was in Black Enterprise, often quoted, the whole nine. He would later publish a book through Hay House's Smileybooks called Black Business Secrets. Black Author Secrets. Get your copy today before the price goes back up to $4.95! He Dante references AALBC.com as a source. He also practices what he preaches by promoting his book on our site.

The categories for our Bestsellers Lists include Fiction, Nonfiction, Children's Books, and Poetry. Unfortunately we did not sell enough poetry to fill the category for this period. Historically, poetry books have sold strongly on this site. Certainly one of the reasons poetry book sales are down is, despite 1000's of pages of content related to poetry, there is simply a lot less engagement on the site connected to poetry. I have not published a poetry book reviews in sometime, the poetry forum is not active, and while poets never really took ads out on AALBC.com, ad sales to poets is probably at an all-time low. This is too bad, because 2016 may be…

Added to this insight is the process of habit since any time a people perceives their environment via memory, there is no degree of separation between conscious action and habit. And for our evolutionary purposes, this must be recognized as extraordinarily regressive. Why” Because whenever close families and extended neighborhoods reside in close proximity to any crippling memory, that people will shape their survival around that memory, and then will suit their habits to satisfy that memory. Case in point. Unarguably, black folks continually shape their passive behavior towards white folks because we remember slavery, lynch mobs, Jim Crow, and the K…

Please check out the article "New York Publishing's Black Pack" which originally appeared in Black Issues Book Review Magazine on May 1, 2001. the article describes a gathering of Black publishing industry professionals, at a small dive bar, in the East Village of New York City. The gathering has come to be known as the "Original the Black Pack Party": http://aalbc.it/bbporigin It is an article that has some very telling quotes about the state of Blacks in publishing over a decade ago: In my opinion, things may be even worse today... For the past 6 years I with the help of other like minded folks have continued hosting annual Black Pack Parties. It is al…

New Guild Survey Reveals Majority of Authors Earn Below Poverty Line"So what does that Federal Poverty Level statistic mean? Given that a single person earning less than $11,670 annually sits below the poverty line, 56% of respondents would qualify, if they relied solely on income from their writing. The survey also indicated that not only are many authors earning little, they are, since 2009, also earning less. Overall, the median writing-related income among respondents dropped from $10,500 in 2009 to $8,000 2014 in 2014, a decline of 24%. The decline came for both full-time and part-time authors with full-time authors reporting a 30% drop in income to $17,500 and part-…

It's part memoir. Part social commentary from a man who truly knows a thing or two about the black diaspora, having traveled around the world first as a merchant seaman, then a man in search of healing herbs. From rage to solemnity in a Honduran setting reminiscent of a fireside chat, Dr. Sebi Speaks of Dembali is an insightful read. "I went to the jungles of Africa, and I came back with an herb call cancansa that cured a man in L.A. of prostate cancer." --Dr. Sebi Thank you AALBC for the connection. I appreciate the opportunity to discuss this new book and others.

Julius Lester came to mind today because I just read the New York TImes review of James Baldwin's recently rereleased only book for children, Little Man, Little Man. That review linked to a review Julius Lester wrote when the book was originally published. I also thought about Lester in the context of the conversation we have been having about novels written about middle aged Black men experiences. When I revisited Lester's page I discovered that the was also a prolific children's book author. Those books were missing from the page and I added many of them (more than 20), and have not added them all. This video on on his pa…

Hi everyone! I just published my new novel, Price of Past Sins. A tale of redemption where the past keeps coming back to haunt a family in Atlanta, Georgia. Brother and sister Patrick and Tracey Mitchell never had it easy. Abandoned by their drug addicted mother as children, the two struggled to make lives for themselves as adults. Both seemed to take all the wrong turns in life and love. Fresh out of prison for selling drugs, Patrick Mitchell seeks to make things right by being the good man he set out to be in the beginning. He has one goal: to correct the lives of his baby sister, his girlfriend, and his daughter he ruined all those years ago. Pat…

The entertainment gossip sites Zap2It and Gawker report that "Real Housewives" cast member Jill Zarin appears to have used a sock puppet on Amazon to attack a reviewer who criticized her advice book and to give a positive review of a download of her show. It's no surprise that some authors do this, but it prompts an observation that will be of some interest to readers here. Zarin has nothing on our favorite sock puppeteer -- who appears to have created more fake identities on Amazon than she has on this board. Take a look through the list of Amazon reviews that mention Kola Boof and you'll see an odd phenomenon: there are lots of "reviews" of popular books that are m…

Am I the only one who gets frustrated at the hype modern day hustlers are selling. The infamous link that goes nowhere, but to a coaching website or video infomercial where they allure unexpecting consumers into buying a product that will not solve their problems. As a society, are we so desperate for, and obsessed with perfection that we think it is attainable? The beauty of life is its imperfections, it ups and downs. The adage that implies that the best things in life are free - is correct. Money cannot buy love, peace, happiness, contentment, health, and well-being. Money can buy stuff, but material gain can be fleeting. Weight loss gimmicks are another one of the bi…

Hi I read a book years ago and forgot the title and author. I can remember it's a fiction and within it a man met Dr. King when he was young and was always an activist at heart. I also remember later in life he worked at a newspaper org., he wrote about racism and was abducted by white supremacists. Anyway my memory is fading but help is appreciated.

Chapter One My First Bank Job Five minutes after my eyes opened, I made a phone call to my partner and sighed in relief to discover that our heist was still on for this morning. I inwardly applauded our plan to get some paper and I crossed my fingers, hoping that the bank would be loaded with cash because at nineteen, I was sick and tired of being broke. I had grown weary of praying to God to let a sack of cash fall off the back of a Wells Fargo truck so I had resolved to end…
