Just finished this book. I expected it to bash those in the Civil Rights Movement who identified with "non violence". I myself am not a "non violent" and this book changed my perception of the "two" strategies. I originally thought "non violence" was weak. But now see it can be an effective tool that must be accompanied with people willing to defend. The author (Charles Cobb) did an amazing job of showing how the two worked hand in hand. Often, when direct physicality wasn't an option, we resorted to other, more creative ways to fight against the system. Work stoppages, slow downs and most notably, running away. The categories for our Bestsellers Lists include Fiction, Nonfiction, Children's Books, and Poetry. Unfortunately we did not sell enough poetry to fill the category for this period. Historically, poetry books have sold strongly on this site. New Guild Survey Reveals Majority of Authors Earn Below Poverty Line"So what does that Federal Poverty Level statistic mean? Given that a single person earning less than $11,670 annually sits below the poverty line, 56% of respondents would qualify, if they relied solely on income from their writing. The survey also indicated that not only are many authors earning little, they are, since 2009, also earning less. Overall, the median writing-related income among respondents dropped from $10,500 in 2009 to $8,000 2014 in 2014, a decline of 24%. One World publisher and editor-in-chief Chris Jackson acquired world rights to the two new titles, including audio rights, from Gloria Loomis of the Watkins/Loomis Literary Agency. He will edit both books. Jackson was Coates's editor at Spiegel & Grau when Coates won the 2015 national Book Award for Nonfiction for Between the World and Me. Thoughts I have learned how time consuming the collage is. I am nearly done but I wasn't able to finish it as fast as I wanted. Julius Lester came to mind today because I just read the New York TImes  review of James Baldwin's recently rereleased only book for children, Little Man, Little Man. That review linked to a review Julius Lester wrote when the book was originally published. I also thought about Lester in the context of the conversation we have been having about novels written about middle aged Black men experiences.
