I just discovered the Smithsonian Anthology of Hip-Hop in my local library yesterday. I was previously unaware of it -- it is almost as if the publishers did not want to make it well known. Kareem, you mentioning your profession made me think about how vulnerable so many AfroAmericans are when it comes to legal protection in this system. Many of the Caucasians I know casually toss around the threat of suing people for this reason or that and often times they do. I hear all too often that black people think that it is meaningless for us to be involved in politics because it's something we don't control. That type of thinking seems to be very popular among black people. My problem with this line of thinking is that if we never get involved in political processes, then we will never have control over anything political.
